The Taenia

Hello steemits, I bring you this post to inform you about Taenia, a dangerous parasite that can be contained in our daily food, if we don't have the necessary precautions.

Taenia is a worm that is shaped like a long noodle or flat ribbon, divided into multiple segments (proglottides) that, once fertile, are thrown into the fecal matter of infested individuals and thus complete the life cycle of the parasite, producing tennis, a parasitic intestinal disease caused by adult forms of the class basket.

Types of Taenia

There are 32 recognized species of Taenia that parasitize various animals, but only two cause disease in humans:

  • Taenia solium: Lives in the small intestine of humans, where it normally measures 3 to 4 meters. It is distributed throughout the world because pigs and wild boars are intermediate hosts of the parasite, the end of its life cycle occurs in regions where man feeds on its meat. It is important to note that human cysticercosis is acquired by ingestion of T. solium eggs present in the faeces of a human carrier. Contamination with Taenia solium eggs can spread throughout the body through the circulatory system and into the brain, causing brain damage, seizures or blindness.
  • Taenia saginata: Its adult forms live in the first portions of the human small intestine, where they grow from 2 to 5 meters and can be up to 12 meters long. It is known as a "tapeworm" because of its large size, and a single parasite individual is usually found in the intestines of infested persons. Its intermediate phase takes place in the cattle, located in the muscles of the animal. It is also frequently found in cats.

These parasites deprive the host of his or her own nutrition because they are fed by absorption, in which case all the nutrients will be stolen by them to increase their size and proportions.

How is it transmitted?

Taenia enters a person's body when they eat or drink something that is infected by one of these worms, or by their eggs. These eggs are located in the stool and around the anus. Once inside the body, the head of the tapeworm attaches itself to the inner wall of the intestines and supports itself from the food digested by its carrier and uses these nutrients to grow.

Causes

The causes of a Taenia or tapeworm infection are:

  • Inadequate disposal of faeces.

  • The consumption of raw meat or fish.

  • Ingest non-bottled water containing the parasite's eggs.

  • Being exposed to livestock animals.

People can spread the tapeworm when they do not wash their hands after using the bathroom.

Symptoms

Most people don't feel anything when they have Taenia or Lonesome. We may realize over time that we are carriers, and pay little attention to it.

Among the most common symptoms are:

  • Nausea.

  • Diarrhea.

  • abdominal pain

  • weight loss or loss of appetite

  • Tiredness.

  • Difficulty in breathing.

  • Anemia.

Other more serious signs are:

  • The appearance of cysts on the skin, brain, eyes, heart and spine, which produce lumps on the skin.

  • Seizures.

  • Vision problems.

  • Abnormal heartbeat.

  • Weakness or trouble walking.

Diagnosis and treatment

To diagnose a Taenia or Solitary infection, doctors usually test stool samples for segments, gravid proglottides, of the parasite. Doctors may order several samples, because the segments do not show up in all the stool. In severe cases, a CT scan or MRI of the brain is ordered to look for cysts.

To produce the exit of the Taenia or Solitary is by means of medical treatment such as praziguantel and albendazole. One is sure of its elimination when one sees the scolex or head of the solitaire.

Home remedies are not as effective, but actions such as eating pineapple as part of a detox diet, adding more garlic to the food you eat, and drinking plenty of water and lemon juice can help.

Recommendations

  • Wash your hands frequently.

  • Cook meats and fish well.

  • Wash all fruit and vegetables before eating.

  • Drink bottled water
