My Steemit Week - Reflections by @SumatraNate

I wanted to document my Steemit week.

  • I hit an important milestone.
  • I tried some new things.
  • I am thinking of ways to improve my reach and engagement on Steemit.

The Milestone

When I started Steemit on June 2, 2017, I was not really sure what I had getting myself into.

I was easily distracted by the shining, glittering things - number of followers and earnings.

As I have found my way, I realize that milestones are important but they cannot be the only thing that drives me on Steemit.

  • I want my willingness to serve to be validated by the numbers.
  • I do not want the numbers to create an inauthentic desire to serve.

One event that defines my Steemit journey this week is reaching the "300 follower" milestone. My desire is that 300 does not just become a number to me, but rather signifies 300 people that are placing their trust in me because I give them value and because engage them well.

900 Posts, Comments, and Replies

I have written over 900 posts, comments and replies. It is amazing how quickly this number has grown.

I have thoroughly enjoyed writing posts. It has been therapeutic.

I enjoy the opportunity to connect to other Steemians through comments and replies. Let's keep up the communication and keep building a stronger Steemit together.

New Things

Steem Power Delegation

I rented SP from @demotruk. And then I delegated SP to a new account I set up - @steemenglish. I had heard a lot about delegated SP, so I decided that I need to try it myself.

Steemit Following Audit

I reviewed the list of people that I am following on Steemit. I asked two question to decide if it was wise to continue to follow.

  1. Do these Steemit users consistently create original content?
  2. Do these Steemit users create content that is relevant and valuable to my life?

Some of the topics that I find most valuable right now are: steemit advice, parenting, silver, and online businesses.

I made sure to continue to follow people who have been authentic and engaging. Community is what makes Steemit great!

What I Want To Work On

In regards to my posts, I want to focus on improving QUALITY and developing CONSISTENCY. I want to make sure that I provide valuable information to my followers. I want to work on the timing and delivery of my posts.

I also want to learn more about TAGS. I feel that some of my posts get lost in all the noise. I do not feel that I am using the main category tag well. I also hope to develop a tag that creates better branding for my blog.

Conclusion

I still support Steemit as a technology and as a community. I have heard things over the last few days that are concerning (even things that have made me sad), but I am still committed to working with others to make Steemit a better place for content creators.

I encourage you to do the same!

I've enjoyed engaging with you in the comment section of my posts, which lead me to follow you and your posts. You are a thoughtful intelligent person, which I hat to say this, is rare in my world. Congratulations and best wishes on your new endeavors!

@reddust, thanks for the kinds words. I still feel rough around the edges, but I am trying everyday to think of how I would want to be treated and try to do that for other people.

I appreciate your willingness to post and then engage with others after you post. That was really important to me when I first started Steemit. You are a great example of how I wanted to engage other in our community!

It's a tough go on steemit, I try and give people a calm and engaging place to hangout. I'm going to write an article on how to maintain creativity while dealing with expectations from self and other dealing with social networks. I'll start on it this next weekend. I think the most important point is don't let trending page or high rewards authors influence who you are or your creativity.

Agree. We all need to find our own voice. We all have something important to share. We can not fall into the temptation on posting junk for high earnings.

Great job on your accomplishments :) I have not read any of your posts prior to this one - This post is very well written and very easy to follow :) I plan to visit your blog and read some more shortly here.. Keep up the GREAT work sumatranate..SUNSHINE247

Thanks @sunshine247! I look forward to reading your comments in the future. I am working hard on improving my writing skills and formatting my posts so that they are easy to read.

You and me both my Friend - I have horrible writing skills but I am really working at it :) Enjoy the ride, Steemit is really fun!!! SUNSHINE247

Congrats on the milestones!

I think you have a great approach to Steemit, and to building community... which is precisely what I am hoping for, for the future of this platform. Community, quality content and engagement... the most appealing things about being here.

thanks @denmarkguy. I appreciate the kind words. Like @reddust said, Steemit can be a tough go, but I think that we need to make sure we are investing in the right things - especially engagement with our community and quality content! Keep pressing on!
