Living the Dream! Off-Grid Solar Powered Cabin in the Mountains!

in living •  7 years ago  (edited)

Take a fresh breath of that clean mountain air you just won’t find in a city or suburbia. Take a nice walkthrough of this very calm and peaceful place.

Garrett did a great job on this cabin, doing much of the work himself, with some help of friends and family. The exterior features a beautiful stone chimney hand made by a friend that is a mason. Solar cells on the roof, connected to a battery box down below, contains 10 batteries and an inverter system. Rain water collection system into a tank is also present.

Garrett also has a generator to charge the batteries on days when the sun's not out or during the winter. He mentions that it only costs about 30 gallons of gas for the entire year to cover all the sunless days.

Inside on the tour, he shows off his cabin layout featuring a very finished and bright design, a loft with plenty of headspace, a completely off-grid solar-powered interior, and gas powered hot water heater. He also has a refrigeration, freezer, and air conditioning unit all powered off the solar system.

A natural spring is found on the property as well. Garrett did a great job making a sustainable, off-grid cabin.

I just watched this video on YT the other day. Is this your place? It's a pretty nice setup! /envy

Not mine I wish. I like to share a bunch of great ideas from YT. I’m hoping to make rhe leap to homestead/motorhome in 2 years or less. Can’t wait!

If you post a video from someone else's content, please make sure to do a decent write up about the video. Just posting a video is considered "shit posting." It's bad for your reputation. :) I hope you don't mind me letting you know. I'm not trying to be a jerk, and I just want you to avoid reputation mistakes.

Gotcha. I've expanded on the post.

Perfect!
