In a famous observation by Marc Andreessen - “Software is eating the World”
Case in point: HomeDepot(HD) is making physical lock keys digital by partnering with https://www.mykeyhero.com/
Two things will happen.
— First, people will “decide” to move to “digital smart” locks, thinking these are harder to hack, but thus making unauthorized entry easier. Where will they buy them? At (HD)!
— Second, every now and then we will hear how the (HD)'s Digital Key Database was hacked and thousands of keys are now on the dark web. Panicked populous will rush to replace their locks. Where will they buy them? At (HD)!
Brilliant marketing plan.
And in case you think your “top rated” massive dumb lock is as solid as it gets, there is a reason the Locksmith industry is an ever-growing field. Very few devices are hard to unlock https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCm9K6rby98W8JigLoZOh6FQ
Access control is big business.
