All those things happened to me last night and I didn't even my phone to photograph it all.
I was feeling good, drinking some whisky chatting with some friends on WeChat and browsing Steemit. I ran out of whisky so I did what anyone in that situation would do. Go to the nearest shop and get some beer, since it doesn't sell whisky. I didn't need my phone to go 12 steps out my building at 11:00pm was only going to be a minute.
All's well get back to my apartment door put in the key and it broke off in the lock. FFFFUUUUU dge!!!!
Well, I knew it was going to eventually break off in the lock, everyday since I moved in it got more difficult and finicky to unlock this was just the worst timing possible and I didn't have my phone.
So I go back to the shop and tell the nice lady who knows me, my situation. The security to my building came and called the cops to let me in.
The cops came, lights flashing, and of course my Chinese is better when I am drunk but still I wasn't too sure what they wanted me to do. Anyways they called a lock smith who came and took about 40 minutes to break into my home going in through the spy hole and with some snake type device and opening the door.
Weird night, too bad I remember it. lol

I was locked out once. Was at a bar with friends all evening, got home, no keys. I went around to the side, looked up, saw my cat looking at me, it meowed. I knew the balcony door was unlocked, and I had had enough of this hassle, so I began to climb. I probably could have died, but I've always been good at chin ups. I survived. Settled in, took my socks off, my keys fell. I forgot I put them in my sock so I wouldn't lose them.

Shame that happened. At least you were able to get help to get inside. My mom went through a period she locked herself out of her house once a week for a few months after she got new locks. I taught myself to break in using a credit card to jimmy the lock to help save her the money of a locksmith.

When lived in a house in the countryside i knew a way in if i lost my keys. But this home no dice. Good tip with credit card, used that trick when i was in high school to get into locked classrooms.

That had happened to me too and they also used this "snake device" and got in quite easily . My wife has now made Sure to Glue the spy hole ! Hehe

Some of these locks on the apartments here aren't exactly well crafted. That's good you were able to get back in though.
I had the cops show up at my apartment randomly last week. I heard them knock, then before I could open the door, they tried to open it themselves...They were just checking registrations and wanted my passport but not too sure why they thought they could just walk right in if I wasn't home.

Wow. Ive never had the police come to my door before. That must have been stressful. Police can do whatever they want but i am surprised they just tried to go in without really waiting.

I hear they are pretty intense in my area, especially to foreigners. It was a little stressful but I saw they had a clipboard with addresses so they were just knocking randomly. Yeah I was a little perplexed that they did that. Apparently there is a new law in China that pretty much gives the police the right to go in and take our stuff. If they have "probable cause" or they suspect us of being spies. Seems like China isn't too welcoming for foreigners anymore.

My friend got locked out three times, and I got his door opened three times. The first time the locksmith stuffed some strings into the keyhole and magic happened - he unlocked the door like that. The second time the locksmith (different one) went through the peep whole and hooked the door open. The third time, the locksmith (another different one) had to change the lock to open it. Funny how different people do things in drastically different ways.

Is that your apartment key in the photo? It's laser cut by the looks of it. I haven't seen too many like that in the States yet. Laser cut keys are usually used for cars. :p @solarguy

Its not a laser key. It does have grooves going through he centre on both sides which I never had anything like it in Canada.
