Do you know where is the most expensive land deal ever done in the world? In London? In Paris? In New York?
No, Till date, the highest price paid for a piece of land in the world is in our India. That too in Sirhind located in Punjab and the name of the great person who bought this most expensive land in the world was Diwan Todar Mal ji.
Perhaps all of you must have heard the story of the martyrdom of Baba Fateh Singh and Baba Zorawar Singh, the little Sahibzads of Guru Gobind Singh ji at some point or the other. It was here in Sirhind's Fatehgarh Sahib that the then Mughal soldier Wazir Khan killed both the Sahibzads. They were walled up alive.
Diwan Todar Mal, who was a wealthy man in the region and was ready to sacrifice everything for Guru Gobind Singh ji and his family, demanded from Wazir Khan the mortal remains of the Sahibzadas and the land where they were martyred. But expressed his desire to perform his last rites. Wazir Khan, showing audacity, made a strange and unreasonable demand for giving land. Wazir Khan demanded that the value of this land would be the number of stamps that would be obtained by laying gold stamps on this land. When Dewan Todar Mal started laying the stamps on the ground after emptying all his stores, Wazir Khan crossed the height of audacity. While saying that the coins will not be spread but will be kept vertically so that more and more coins can be recovered. Then Todermal ji spread all his coins, a total of 78000 gold coins were spread and 4 square meters of land was bought. According to that time, the cost of 78000 gold coins were 2 billion 50 crore rupees, this was the most expensive land till date, no one has bought such a small amount of land in the world till date. But Todermal ji bought this land at this rate so that the last rites of Guru ji's Sahibzadas could be performed there. There is no other example of such sacrifice anywhere in the history of the world, nor anywhere else such a huge amount of a piece of land Price paid elsewhere to date.
