Marginal Risk Severe Weather Long Island Connecticut

A cold front is approaching Long Island and for much of this day we have been out of the louds but they are increasing now and we will likely see a few showers going into this evening as the front moves across Long Island. The front looks more active judging from the satellite and radar views this afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has even indicated a marginal risk for an isolated severe thunderstorm developing inside these bands of showers.

Temperatures are in the mid to upper 70s this afternoon in most places and a few 80 degree readings are showing up along the north shore. These showers should play through this evening. The satellite shows dry air already into Western Pennsylvania where skies have partially cleared out and that dry air gets here tonight with clear skies and lows by Friday morning in the 50s to near 60.

REGIONAL RADAR

Regional and local radars show the showers moving east across the Hudson Valley and New Jersey and we are starting to see the odd heavy patch in there in a couple of spots. We will keep an eye on this in case a stronger storm flares up.

Friday we are back in a dry and cooler air mass with sunshine all day and highs in the low to mid 70s. Saturday we will attempt to warm up again to the upper 70s to near 80 as another cold front approaches and there is the chance for late afternoon and evening showers, much like we are seeing today though I think the odds for late day showers should be lower.

Sunday Forecast HIgh Temperatures

Sunday we will be back to a developing northeast wind as the Saturday cold front pushes to the south. We will see some sunshine and a few clouds with highs mostly in the low to mid 70s. We will hold on to the same on Monday with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 70s.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS

Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
