The value of our national flag: The African view.

Every country has symbols and monuments that portray its values and culture. One such symbol is the national flag. The flag of every country gives a summary of how the nation was founded, its endowments and future expectations. The question is; do we really see these meanings in our national flag? The answer is 'No'. We only see our flags as mere designs.
Let me take you through the coluors of the flag of Ghana.

Red: The red colour signifies the blood of our ancestors who fought during the demand for independence. The value of this colour is to entreat every Ghanaian to fight every oppressor who is a threat to the development of our country. Who are these oppressors? We are our own oppressors ( not any foreign country). Today, we cheat our own weak and vulnerable people to succeed: the oppressor is seen as an enemy. We are therefore our own enemies. Fighting these oppressors, we fight our own; but a kingdom that fights against itself never succeed.
Yellow: The yellow colour signifies the mineral wealth of the country. Ghana like many African countries is blessed with with a lot of minerals like Gold, Bauxite, Manganese and many more. The value of this is not to boast of how rich we are but the citizens are to value themselves and try to shine everywhere. However, most of the things we hear about Africans is not encouraging.
Green: This colour also signifies the forest and agricultural wealth of the country. Ghana is among the leading producers of Cocoa and other cash crops in the world. This colour entreats Ghanaians to uplift the country higher among others. We should strive to grow and live in unity. As Africans, are we united? We are our own enemies.
The black star: This signifies the hope of Africa. The black African has a hope in the future. Our future is bright, we are always told. When will the future come? Do we shine like the star? Hmmm

Africans, do we know the value of our respective colours in our flags? We hang the flags in our vehicles, houses and on ourselves without really knowing their respective hidden meanings. We view the flag as mere artifacts but not a historical symbol that gives us messages.
My dear Africans, let us learn the hidden meanings of our national flags and apply them. Longliveafrica!
