Why Lonzo Ball will win rookie of the year...

Lonzo Ball has definitely been the center of attention in the NBA's 2017 Summer League! He went from having a disappointing debut in his first ever NBA game and scoring only two points, to recording two triple doubles in a row and scoring 30 plus points. This brings up much speculation. Will he be able to keep up these numbers? Will he win rookie of the year? The answer is yes. With rookies like Markelle Fultz, Ben Simmons, De'arron Fox, and Jason Tatum, it may seem like anybody's game. But based on what I have seen from Lonzo already, and the situation he's in, I think he might just be able to run away with it. I'll start with a talented young Sixers team with very high potential rookie talent. With young phenoms like Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Markelle Fultz, Dario Saric, and veteran shooter JJ Redick, this team is not going to have just one star. The scoring on this team will be very balanced and nobody will have outstanding numbers. With that we move on to the Celtics with number 3 pick Jayson Tatum. Although Tatum has much potential as a rookie, he is going onto a team which has just landed Gordon Hayward and already has superstar Isaiah Thomas. Since Tatum is a Small Forward, like Hayward, he will not play as much and when the game comes down the wire, Hayward will play. Although Boston just got rid of Averery Bradley, who was a great scorer, I still think that it will be difficult for Tatum to produce big numbers with a star like Gordon Hayward. Next, we go on to the player who I think will be the runner-up rookie of the year, De'aaron Fox. The Sacramento Kings definitely made a great choice in selecting Fox. So far in the summer league, play has proved that speed kills defenders. Fox flashes by stunned defenders and scores. The problem is that with a team that does not have any other talent, the rookie will have to do everything on his own. Though this may sound like a good thing and a good way to get stats, it will all come down to the player who makes the most difference for their team. I think Fox will have a hard time doing that for a team that just lost a big asset in Demarcus Cousins. Finally, we go to the player who I think will win the rookie of the year, Lonzo Ball. Lonzo can not only pass the ball really well as we've seen in his first couple games, but he can also shoot. Yes he had a disappointing first game, and many were already calling him a bust. But then he learned from his mistakes and came into the next few games scoring back to back triple doubles. Yes, the Lakers probably will not make the playoffs and will most likely have another horrendous year. But with a Center like Brook Lopez and other young stars like Josh Hart, Lonzo will continue to post big numbers and amaze.
