Foolishness in the Bible: The LORD looks down from heaven on Adam's descendants to see if there is anyone who acts wisely, if there is anyone who seeks help from God. Psalm 14:2

The Psalms 10 to 14 deal with the problem of original sin, the sin of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden that was transmitted to all of humanity, and thus these hymns of the Bible denounce the problem of a humanity corrupted by concupiscence and foolishness.
And the Psalm 14 begins by describing how the concupiscence, the inclination of man to act against his neighbor, deceives reason by denying God, the creator of all things, and so the Psalm expresses:
"Godless fools say in their hearts,
´There is no God.´
They are corrupt.
They do disgusting things.
There is no one who does good things" Psalm 14:1.
But as the Bible teaches, in the face of man's sin, God also has a plan and seeks out those who fear him with their hearts, because like seeks like, as happened with Noah and his family whom God saved from the flood, or as also happened with the patriarch Abraham whom God called to make a covenant and give him a land and descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky.
And so with these words, the Psalm continues:
"The LORD looks down from heaven on Adam's descendants
to see if there is anyone who acts wisely,
if there is anyone who seeks help from God" Psalm 14:2.
God rejects sinners, the Psalm emphasizes, because whoever acts against wisdom also acts against common sense, against what is edifying, against what is harmonious with the ethical laws of the universe such as the law of sowing and reaping.
This is why God is always attentive to the oppressed and hopeless, to teach them the right path, which is the path of righteousness, as happened when the kingdoms of Judah and Israel were destroyed, and so the hymn warned of a common mistake among fools:
"They put the advice of oppressed people to shame
because the LORD is their refuge" Psalm 14:6.
This Psalm was probably written after the destruction of Jerusalem at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar because the song ends with an invocation of God's mercy towards his people.
"If only salvation for Israel would come from Zion!
When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people,
Jacob will rejoice.
Israel will be glad" Psalm 14:7.
