As a kind of curious economics point, this is kind of interesting. Part of the reasons these homes are valued as high as they are is because of specific aspects of the neighborhood like proximity to other really nice homes, proximity to beautiful natural landscape, and proximity to a "high class" set of neighbors.
If the landscape is desolate ash, 2/3rds of the homes are rubble, and half the neighbors leave, the value changes.
Might be a decent opportunity to talk about subjective value.
