I think that it is absolutely right to discuss their family misunderstandings with the parents. In India, parents are also part of the family and we give so much of importance to the parents. We even let them take decisions for so many things. In some of the traditional families, the marriage itself happens only based on the interests of the parents and not based on the individual.
Arranged marriages are very common in India and in arranged marriages, parents play a vital role in finding the right bride or groom for their children. Not just with marriage alone but even after marriage the parents tell teach the newly married couple various aspects of life.
We strongly believe that marriage life doesn't end with just the understanding of the couple alone. It is very important that a newly married daughter-in-law should understand the parents of her husband very well. Most of the families here are joint families and if the daughter-in-law gradually learns how to be very flexible with the husband as well as her father in law and mother in law.
Similarly the son-in-law also gives equal importance to the father and mother of his wife and also makes decisions with a collective discussion with entire family. Of course not for all the things but we equally give importance to all the members of the family.
Discussing the family misunderstandings
It is quite common for someone to have misunderstandings after marriage. We see that commonly even in love marriages and in arranged marriages it is very common. The first place where people go for suggestions is the parents. The parents are only responsible for everything because they only arranged the marriage for them.
Though that is one reason, another important reason is that discussing with parents give more clarity because they have been able to lead a successful life for so many years with proper adjustments. Considering that fact they are experts in this particular matter and it is good to have a discussion with them if there are any misunderstandings.
Usually when people get married in India, it will be super fun for the first few months but after that if they still don't understand each other well, friction will start to happen. When there is friction between the couple it will either be the case where one person will learn to adjust with the other or they come to a mutual agreement on how to approach the friction.
Only in extreme cases people approach their parents and it is also the best move to make. Just because the parents have more maturity than the children and they can provide expert suggestions, the solutions provided by them will usually be long lasting.
Teaching our children the same
I have seen a great success in this way of living where couple share their misunderstandings with the parents. One advantage is that the solution that is provided by the parents will also not be misleading because they really care about the life of their children.
I really like this tradition and I'm going to teach the same to my children as well. The importance that we give to our parents is very important. Though we grow up to become more brilliant than them at one point in time, we have to understand that it all started from them and if they had not given the freedom and exposure we would have not been able to be like this.
