In many ways, the sapiential literature is a foretaste of the teachings of the Kingdom of God, the empire or dominion of divine perfections. And for this reason, many reflections and thoughts from the Book of Proverbs are repeated in some way in the teachings of Jesus. The wisdom from above, which gives life, enlightens, and heals, is a common good in both the Old and New Testaments.
Specifically in the Book of Proverbs, there is a quote that reminds men of many words spoken by the "son of man" to the simple and common people, and for which the divine teacher gave his life on the cross, and this teaching says: "If we truly love God, our sins will be forgiven; if we show him respect, we will keep away from sin" Proverbs 16:6.
The love of God or Agape erases sins and this is logical because in the New Testament, the believers in Jesus can see a few characteristics of this perfect love, as Paul, the apostle of the gentiles taught: "Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs" 1 Corinthians 13:4-5.
Spiritual love is a grace that internally transforms man's conscience. As when Jesus visited the city of Jericho, and seeing Zacchaeus he told him that he would enter his house, and Zacchaeus moved by the words of the Lord accepted the divine love who blessed him and repented of his sins, as told in the gospel of Luke (Luke 19:1-10). The same thing happened with Saul who, upon receiving Jesus in a divine vision, changed his name to Paul; and, repenting of his sins, became a spreader of the gospel.
Finally, the phrase from the book of Proverbs tells us to have respect for God, and this is essentially the fear of God. The spiritual gift of fear of God is constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, and stability. In practical terms, the fear of God is the taste for divine things, in particular the instruction of the word, and the common sense that guides men in making assertive, benevolent, and edifying decisions. The Book of Proverbs reminds men that this forgiveness also requires of men to accept this form of fear, as when one of the thieves who was with Jesus on the cross asked Jesus to be received into his spiritual kingdom, and Jesus forgave him because of his fear. In resume, the Book of Proverbs, in the Bible, with its wisdom invites men to spiritual perfection.
