The Book of Wisdom tells us the action of wisdom in the history of the people of Israel; the wise man, author of the book, identified this eternal and uncreated wisdom with God himself: "Give me the Wisdom that sits beside your throne; give me a place among your children" Wisdom 9:4.
And at the same time that the book develops in its narration the history of Israel, the book also explains the attributes of this perfect wisdom, such as love and forgiveness; because the love of God proceeds from his wisdom, to love something we must first know it, and wisdom is the knowledge of the most perfect causes. To know wisdom is to know God.
And the book explains something very beautiful to us, love is a genre, there are different types of love, because we love what we want; but the love that proceeds from wisdom is the most excellent love and it is the love projected towards the whole creation of God. In the Christian faith this is the love infused by the Holy Spirit through the new birth, the birth in the spirit. In the Greek language this love is called Agape.
This is how the author of the book described the love of God towards his creatures:
"You love everything that exists; you do not despise anything that you have made. If you had not liked it, you would not have made it in the first place. How could anything last, if you did not want it to? How could it endure, if you had not created it? You have allowed it all to exist, O Lord, because it is yours, and you love every living thing" Wisdom 11:24-26.
And ultimately, the message that the wise man leaves us with this teaching is that true spirituality consists in abandoning the path of error, which is the path of suffering, to get as close as possible to that spiritual love and wisdom, through the path of the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, and stability). In other words, spirituality is summed up in an affirmation: "Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy" Leviticus 19:2.
