About Valentine's Day

Do you usually celebrate Valentine's Day? I am not that much into this holiday but seeing the people around me being very busy with this holiday it made me think about its origins.

The legend says that once upon a time there was a Roman Emperor whose name was Claudiu II. He was a fierce warrior and had been involved in many wars. He wanted a strong army and this, in his opinion, had the meaning that soldiers should never get married in order to be fully involved in the army and this quickly became a law. A christian priest, named Valentine thought that people should marry because this is God's will for them so he secretly married some couples without having public wedding and ceremonies. Claudiu II found about what Valentine did and he got him arrested. Since Valentine was a young and wise man, Claudiu thought that he could make him give up Christianity and become one of his soldiers. Valentine couldn't do this so he was sentenced to death.

We don't know if this legend is real or not. It is not a bad thing to celebrate love but I think you should celebrate it every day of the year. Only one day shouldn't be enough for us. Make your dear one feel special and loved every day. Make sure he/she knows that you appreciate him/her and express your love through small gestures every day it's possible.

There are so many versions to this St Valentine's story but which ever one is true I totally agree with you. Love shouldnt be a one day in a year affair. We should celebrate everyday because we are all products of love.

I wish more people will realize this

Thank you for your article. My wife of 48 years and I celebrate by making a grand dinner together of our favorite foods. It includes meat and seafood some fancy veggies and always a dessert. Our dessert is usually Creme Brule' or a very rich chocolate cake. Now that I'm retired prep can take all day.

That sounds really amazing! :D

I do celebrate Valentine's day but I didn't know about this story. It is sad that many people express love only on this day. Love must be in our life's every day because love is everything! :D

Yes, I totally agree with you!
