No such thing.
Whatever binds families and married couples together...that's not love.
That's stupidity or selfishness or fear.
Love doesn't exist.
Self-interest exists.
Attachment based onpersonal gain exists.
Complacency exists.
But not love.
Love has to be reinvented.

The scale of love-hate indicates the degree of empathy.
The easiest way to measure this is to determine whether one feels happiness or pleasure when good or bad things happen to the subject concerned.
The scale of anti-passion to passion indicates attraction.
Parallels could be drawn here to a desire for proximity. I am not sure if this is the best metric but it seems to fit.

Incidentally one can love and have self-interest. There is a reason why they say that one must love oneself before one can love others.

It is the definition that man has so hard to strive to define, but love is quite simply undefinable, it just is the most beautiful and powerful energy we have within us. To strip away all the illusions that man has created over millennia of conditioning is the task at hand...its called awakening. You are Love, You are Worthy of Love - Love does not belong in a box or re-invented. Re-invent the mind to discover the love that exists within yourself, and then share it.
