Rather, I think we are trapped by the beliefs we hold.
If I am deluded and believe there is a wall in front of me when there isn't, I will not try to move forward. Choosing to believe that we will succeed or fail at an endeavor greatly affects the likelihood that your belief comes true.
If we think we're just clockwork oranges, mechanical pieces ticking along, then we will see life as little more than a slide show. But, when we choose to believe more imaginatively, we create an experience worth living.
When what lies over the next hill is a surprise, life is an adventure. When every failure can be seen as a lesson, the lows of life can be turned into turning points. When you see the person in front of you is a spiritual creature, a hyperdimensional rhythm of energy dancing a divine dance just as you are, then you open the potential of your mind to form deep meaningful connections.
It is those wonders, magic tricks, and connections which give an otherwise nihilistic existence meaning.
