My Name is Written on it

This simple gift from a church mate of mine has reminded me of Dr. Gary Chapman who is the author of “5 love languages” (namely: act of service, quality time, words of affirmation, physical touch, and receiving gifts). Not to mention, the test that I took for me to know what are the means to fill my love tank at the same time how I express my love to others the way they too will feel special. Here is the website if you are interested to know yours: https://www.5lovelanguages.com/quizzes/ I guarantee you that it will help you build a better and lasting relationship with your loved ones.

I am not just reminded of the book and the test, but most importantly I felt valued. It’s not because the gift was bought somewhere out there. It’s not because the gift is expensive. It is not because it is given in a special place. These reasons are good, yet not so a big of a deal enough for me to feel loved. Let me tell you, it is because my name is written on it. My name is there—handwritten, visible before my naked eye. I know deep down that even before it was bought, I was already in her mind. Before it was paid, I was thought of. Before the pen was held, my name was spelled first. Before it was put in her bag, she thought of me receiving her gift with a big smile. It may sound "what is that again?" to you, but then that’s where the uniqueness comes in. It may be even more surprising for you if I tell that receiving gifts is not on top of the list of my love languages it is even the last on the list. The question is, why then I responded that way, it is because I value what she does value. It’s more than what was given, it is the L. O. V. E. the most important ingredient we must all have in all we do.

Can I say then that Love is a language expressed in different ways? Speaking of L. O. V. E. here is what Jesus answered when He was asked about the greatest commandment in the Law. Jesus replied, “You shall LOVE the Lord your God will ALL your heart, and will ALL your soul and with ALL your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And the second IS LIKE IT: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

May we have that love in which our names are written on it. Love that we freely received and willingly want to give away. Love that is not self-manufactured but anchored on the unlimited love of God.
