"When I was at SteemFest, I got to see that work in real life. Realizing that every action can have a positive, negative, or neutral effect on our account value is such a powerful thing."

Doesn't it make you feel that no matter what you do, you want to do more? This community is very loving, and although our stories differ, I was always the odd girl. I began to think if that's how it really was. This is the first place where I am accepted as is, and in every direction I look, everyone only wants to help one another learn and grow.

Steemit changed my understanding of the world and refreshed my senses. In terms of self-improvement, my life has only been getting better after finding my way here. What I do here has value, and as a person I have value. Steemit really taught me how to love myself and those around me to a new level.

I am eternally grateful to you, you are such a hard worker that nothing will be out of reach!

Steem has changed many lives, mine included. I had a similar dream of wanting to learn all the time and then share it with others. For the givers and the always learning types Steem is nothing short of a miracle. We are so lucky to be here.....that's part of the key too....gratitude for what we have here.

I just never knew how deep steem could reach into my soul and help me to grow. it's so much bigger than learning and writing... but the learning and writing are sort of the fuel that drive the steem engine. I love it

@stellabelle you and i are so aligned with empathy and finding an outlet we can get lost in! Looking forward to building many friendships here including one with u!

My feelings for Steemit is that this is a place that works like it’s own little society. And it’s cool! I love my corner in this community and I feel that the attention and positive feedback I give and receive really are meaningful! And this makes me feel valuable, I don’t care if my corner is tiny but it’s filled with amazing people💜 I also love the feeling of entrepreneurship and that Steemit seems filled wit pioneers!
I’m so happy that you found your spot and craft and that you feel that it creates meaning. The community here is good at this, creating meaning!

you are a good one, friend! I'm glad you've stuck around and continued to grow. Yes, we all can be pioneers here. There is so much work that can still be done. All hands on DECK, as we grow this into the best social media platform EVER! Once it's solid on the tracks for a couple years, we can all chill out and just be casual bloggers. Until then, FULL STEEM AHEAD!

Agreed! Happy i found you too. Your becoming a great colleague and friend

Thank you:-)

Powerful message.

I find that Steemit had a similar effect on me. While I always cared about humanity (I can identify with some of what you wrote) being on here made me take it to another level. Steem is about changing the world...by changing ourselves. You are right, there is no need for flame wars on here. People who come here looking for fights dont get anywhere...perhaps it is the fact that ones finances are tied to it.

Regardless, I think Steemit can be a central part of changing humanity. There is abundance on here and everyone is free to share in it. The basic premise here is to help ourselves by helping others. Upvotes only come after interacting and supporting others. It is a wonderful circle that we operate under.

A lot of knowledge from different people are shared here.

So true and a post straight from your heart and experience. I am only a week into it and I can deeply connect to your words. Especially

I'm a big reader, from way back. Learning deeply has ever been an pursuit of mine. Last year I thought "If only I could get paid for reading and learning all of the time".

and also this one

Here, I'm rewarded for educating myself and others. The more I learn, and write about what I'm learning, the more I'm rewarded, in so many ways. The writing helps me to expand my knowledge, and absorb it better. It gives other people an opportunity to learn, by giving you all the record of my studies. The fact that I'm always trying to learn and educate others on Steem has helped me to develop many amazing relationships with amazing people. Now, I can say that I get paid to learn, and to share knowledge!

This search for a platform where I can express myself through words and graphics and teach and help others, and also learn along the way is simply incredible. Although I stumbled into it a week ago and thought it would have been good if I had found it last year but destiny has it way of unfolding life.

Today I am also a freelance web designer and I am enjoying it to the fullest. And now I found Steem!

WHAT MORE I CAN ASK FOR!

I am just starting and trying to give my best in what I am good at. Helping others learn, grow and live a happy life.

Well its more like you had the potential to be of help to people and steemit enhanced this potential, I have been a testament to your philantrophicness how you've helped newbies develop hosted a lot of contest and rewarded out of your free will.

However the development continues and you have really done so well, I remember the first day I spoke to you, so kind so eager to help and participate, I'm glad I met and know you

glad I can be of service. tbh, I have way less time to chat than I used to when I started steeming. In some ways I wish I could go back to that simple past of having as much time to chat with people as I felt like... but the longer I use steem, the more I feel like I need to back off from chat so I can do more of the work that benefits more, by documenting and creating articles for the ages.... still I need to find more time to spend in the comments...

I suppose as time goes by I take shifts for certain activities, and I will have to continue to rotate those activities, so I can have the most complete and fulfilling experience for myself and for everyone else

You're an amazing guy, I'm lucky to know you!
I have similar experience with Steem. Even though often I can not really write what I want to say but I found my way to improve my life, thanks to Steem and the amazing people using it.

I always wanted to be a developer, creating things for people and see the joy in their eyes when they use my creation. It is really hard to earn enough from this to sustain myself but maybe one day I will get there and I'm sure it will be because of Steem!

Thanks for your inspirational post!

you're pretty incredible yourself! we share an obsession, although mine is on the word side, and yours is on the code side.. you are amazing bro! keep it up!

I do agree and thoroughly enjoyed your story. You would not be exactly as you are without experiencing the turmoil you did. I relate to much of it myself, but luckily have never been plagued with any life altering addictions. Your latter path is the type of life I find the most enjoyment from. I am sure I experienced it through a different lense, coping mechanism and perspective, of course. Being on the move, completely independent from the system is the only time I feel free. I am going to be taking a similar minimum year long adventure starting this spring. My perspective of this type of life is through my preference towards Anarcho-Primitivist ideals. I am glad you broke a way from the negative experiences and are on the path you prefer. To get a better idea of where I am coming from please read my introduction. Don't worry, it's not an attempt for self-promotion as the post has already paid out. As for SteemIt, I believe it's the perfect structure to show we can live mostly good, ethical and peaceful lives without the interference of Central authority. It's a test for an Anarchist Society. I also have already noticed change towards the better from the use of this platform. I am wanting to get better at expressing myself through type, which does spur growth positively. I am glad our paths have crossed my friend and may your life proceeds on your terms. Here's the link to my introduction. Https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@notconvinced/hello-steemians-this-is-me

I've totally noticed the same thing, I was on other forums before and there was not really any incentive to be nice, so people let their worst selves out, this is just the opposite

It's been few weeks that I have got familiar with this platform.. It's really amazing to share our thoughts here and the community responds very well... Maybe in sometime, I will achieve some more goals too...
Thanks for sharing your story...Have a nice day...
Cheers..!!!!

Steemit is indeed here to change the lives of many of its users. It influences the way we live in various ways.

As you know, "Information is power" and Steemit is here to create a great experience in which information can be shared as we earn at the same time.

Thank You @inquiringtimes for sharing your experience.

Great article. I was just thinking about how different people act on Steemit compared to Facebook, then I see your article explaining the why.

I don't even care if some of the niceness is "fake". Maybe the "fake it till ya make it" principle will hold true here and help many to become better people :)

all these stories and personal experiences keep me on my toes.......m new but enjoying every bit of steemit

I really enjoyed this blog, thanks for sharing with us.

The more positive words I see, the more drawn I am to Steem/it and the life-changing potential it has.

Well done man!

Glad you stopped by! I enjoy your content, so I'm glad if you have just a little more inspiration to stick around and continue

Thanks, my pleasure :)

Yes Steemfest cancelled any doubts I was having, so it's full Steem ahead this year. Cheers!

Very well written article!

I’ve felt like opting out of society, myself, at times. I have never done it because I like my modern day technology too much.

You never know, maybe one day, when I have a lot of money saved, maybe opting out of the mainstream will become an option!

I can relate to this post, i havent experienced a quarter of what you have been through but just the fact that steemit pushes me to become better is relatable. Thank you for this post.

I met some really nice people here. And get a lot of inspiration. And it is a great way to stay in contact with my followers (some of them former patients). The way of communication is polite and interesting.

I believe Steemit will become a content farm of epic proportions. The amount writers get paid to create content on the web is abysmal. No one can afford to spend the time it take to make really quality material in the external economy. Here, it is relatively easy to start earning for your contributions. Its worthwhile for me to spend 8 hours perfecting a research article, because even if I don't get votes exactly what I think I deserve in the short term, the token value grows, my reputation grows, and people are more interested in what I create. Every time I have to search the web for references to use on research articles I find a bunch of fluff filled clickbait articles, and I'm lucky if they reference anything, or provide any real value. But that's what the market will pay for out there

“Or maybe that's just what seemed worthwhile at the time. For a long time I didn't even believe in earning money. I only wanted to help people for free, and receive help for free. Co-operative living meets lazy hedonism, and social awkwardnes”

I had a very similar experience. I didn’t feel there was much hedonism and the laziness was kind of part of the detox process, getting all the brainwash out. I have since realized that if I want to promote the gift economy to those using money, I can do much more to promote it if I have money to go live among those people and I don’t have to sell out and work for some corporation. Steemit is making it a hell of a lot easier though, I relate to everything you say.

Well, the lazy hedonism part probably comes from my a reaction to my christian fanatical youth... Another thing that likely held back my social progress, or .. idk it's a chicken and the egg sort of thing

Maybe your lazy hedonism is what made your parents fanatical Christians?

No no... My parents aren't fanatical, they are just regular christians. I was a zealot, and later became a lazy hedonist after i read too many books

I've chosen to be homeless at one point in my life and can say it was the most liberating experience haha. I'm glad things like Steemit are coming into existence, not only decentralization of currency but of power and societal structures that were meant to lock us into a rat race of 9 to 5 and debt.

You gave me a very nice upvote on one of my posts, and like I do with everyone that does, thought I would come and at least take a look at your posts in return, and I am very glad I did, I can relate to nearly EVERYTHING you said above, thank you taking the time to visit my post last night, added to following, with pleasure.

till now steemit didn't change my life. may be it will be my life changer.
may be it helps to get out of my problem
i wanna request you to pray for me that steemit can be set some effect in my life...
a better effect

I love steem because it allows me to interact with so many open minded people like yourself and catch a glimpse of everyone’s lives. Love how we are able to impact each other here positively :)

and it makes us more connected with the world at large, which is such a great benefit! Bringing the world a little closer together, every day. I fear it might change a bit as steem grows, we are lucky to be here at the beginning, when we are all so close together <3

I don't think you are as far from your goal of being a good writer as you might think...your article here has been beautifully composed, and well thought through.

It seems to me that steeming is all about the circle of abundance and about having the right attitude to that...the financial reward is the least of it...there's an abundance of helpful, knowledgeable people, writing, creating and posting intelligent content in a mature and accessible manner. With a humble attitude we can ALL learn from it, from them and from each other.

So, for me, as a wee minnow in this mighty ocean, I'm not asking what it can do for me but to paraphrase a famous quote...what can add or do for it? How may I serve to expand our collective consciousness, add to, and hopefully enhance, the mix?

When we connect and engage at this level we automatically HAVE to raise our game, so your argument that it has enhanced your life, my life, all our lives, is bang on! It HAS and it DOES!

Full steem ahead, my friend and have a great steeming year!
All good wishes to you
In peace,
Lily ⭐️

well, I tell you what, the financial reward helps a lot, since I didn't earn money for a long time, it's a blessing to have a space where my contribution is considered valuable.

there are so many opportunities to be a productive member of the community.. first is showing your worth, and making connections, and then is having to sort through all of the opportunities that come your way to meet with the ones that best match your spirit <3

Totally agree...and I am glad for you that your value is being recognised!

Valuing ourselves, and what have to offer to others, is one of those really important qualities that is often overlooked in many of our modern societies where everyone knows the price of everything but the value of nothing!

And, for me, your second point of matching YOUR values with both your own spirit and that of another person is also well made. Maybe the old hippies weren't so far off when they told us to tune in to the vibes, man! 😊

Very impressed by your choices @inquiringtimes ! I can, actually could, relate to that. Wanted to live outside the system.
At that time I was making some money by reupholstering used and found chairs. I found them in the trash and created awesome pieces out of it.
After some years I decided to be only for (not against) whatever and create a balance in my life.
In the Netherlands, if you don't make a lot of money you don't pay a lot of taxes. In fact I didn't pay tax at all. It meant that I had to pay less for my daily costs. Getting rid of the Internet. TV was already gone for years. And then food. I started to just use the basics. Baked my own bread instead buying in the store was a difference from 60 euro to 8 euro. And I can tell you. My bread, after some trial and error, was much more tasty.

Anyway. Just a small inside information how I made some changes without getting myself in a situation where I had to struggle.

Love yourself and respect life

I would like to try your bread :) <3

Let me know when you are in Amsterdam.....

Did you really go homeless? This is very inspiring. I feel Steemit has already made me a better person too. I don't have a job and my business certainly doesn't pay the bills, but I'd rather work for me than someone else. Finding Steemit was like a dream come true. I've been an on and off twitch streamer but it just wasn't worth it. The toxicity that came with twitch viewers was also not worth it. On Steemit people are less likely to be rude.

I've had little to no energy to do much of anything when it came to life. Just lazy around til my business line rings.

With Steemit not only did I motivate myself to quit smoking, but I feel energized motivated excited and enthusiastic every day. I wake up without dragging my ass. I'm ready to take the day on.

So Steemit has definitely made me a better person also. Great post!

It felt like society bailed on me from the very start. I didn't learn certain social skills that most people do from a young age. I found myself in a cyclical loop of people being mean to me. Moved around too much to ever establish a good circle of friends. In short, there was nothing keeping me attached to society. Not even a good paying job with a great tech firm.

I can feel my brainwaves changing every day, and I'm more and more self-aware of self-destructive patterns. Its so much easier to let them go, when I have such a positive place to direct my energy.

Well I'm glad you've found your place here! I moved 1800 miles away from home when I had enough. It's been a struggle since 2009, but since I discovered bitcoin things have gotten easier and I've learned so much!

Nicely written. There is nothing mote rewarding when u get paid for your comments, posts, readind or writing. Every day Yoi get so many new articles. So many creative people to follow on steem. Steem is building a great community. Community where each one of us contributing to each others success.. Good bye to trolls. Steem is more trustworthy platform than FB and twitter because of the fake news ciculation on twitter and FB and the brigade of trolls working to discourage you and stop you frm raising ur voice. Steem is the solution to fale news and trolls.
Steem is solving is bigger problem here.
Congratulations steem.

Great article. I can relate to so much of what you said early on. I am a young "anarchist", i guess is what label people would associate me with. I do work a decent job, and work hard, but it just doesn't seem right for me. I mainly do it for my girlfriend and dog, which I'm ok with, for the time being.

Similarly to you, I am a long-time reader, and in recent years have started writing to satisfy my frustration over the way the current world works and working a full-time job for someone else's profit.

In part, it's what brought me to Steemit. My girlfriend's brother is big into crypto, and upon hearing I had a small following on an online writing website, said "bring it to steemit"

So here I am. And I've just found you. And am glad I have. Cheers

welcome, friend. The best part about writing that I never realized until I started steeming, is how much it continues my education. Can only learn and retain so much from reading. But writing hammers truths deeper into the psyche, and if we forget, it's documented :)

Interesting! I agree. Nice thought.

Glad to have found you on here!

I'm sort of right there with you but not quite. I quit my shit job. I don't really care about money, but I feel the need to do something useful for people and have something to show(read: live indoors and eat) for my time. I don't feel comfortable initiating things in general, so I haven't made any posts yet, but I'm happy to be a part of the community. There are plenty of negative things going on in the steemit community, but it's just as easy to find the positive if you look. I'm still trying to get a feel for it, but I'm glad it's had such a positive effect on you.

welcome to steem! I would say you can spend a lot more time studying the https://steemit.com/welcome page, and in the comments for your initial experience here, and then when you start to actually write articles\blogs, you will already be a lot better off and ready to create your own thoughtful content

We seam to have a lot in common.
;-)
I agree, steemit is helping me to be a better person and giving me a spark of hope for humanity.
namaste

I'll be grateful to take my new sense of self to the world when this transformation is more settled in :)

indeed. I have put many many hours into my life on steem. It has been more than a full time job to me since I started 6 months ago. You can look at my progress and think that I got lucky... some of it's luck, a lot of it is perseverance, and part of it is how I have chosen to approach my life here.

  ·  7 years ago Reveal Comment

a lot of work, lol. but I love being obsessed with this site :)

This is it !

I'm rewarded for educating myself and others. The more I learn, and write about what I'm learning, the more I'm rewarded, in so many ways.

I was trying to explain that to one of my friends, couldnt find the way to describe it. Thanks for sharing it :)

Sweet :)

this is an amazing story. i think i have not realized yet how many people can influence their lives positively by using this system. you seem to put a lot of thought and effort in this article and went a deeper: e.g. realizing that being rude is punished.

great story!

well, at least it's typically not rewarded, unless you already have tons of stake (which people infer as a social proof that you have a lot invested, so you have the right to be pissed, lol... )

Polite conversation is way easier to get rewarded than being a jerk, unlike in the outside world where if you are a jerk to someone on a forum, you can get a rise out of thinking of their discomfort from the rude remark... somehow "money" being involved makes us more compassionate, lol

@inquiringtimes, I am glad that I am also part of steemit community where I can also learn and share a little bit of my knowledge like yours . Steemit really challenge me and put me in another level . I am grateful that I have read your thoughts and have the same feelings toward this community where we created our new set of friends and companions :) thank you so much for sharing your thoughts :)

I am very grateful for this to be a very useful science and motivation for me.

Indeed

Really felt your soul talking here. Ive not long just discovered Steemit also and I can't wait to express myself more, and like you to become a better writer at the same time. Its giving real hope to those of us that want to step out of the 9-5 'normality people call life. .Keep on keeping on

I hear you, @inquiringtimes.

I've also dropped my successful corporate career because I didn’t like spending 8-10 hours on work + 1-2 hours on commuting five times per week.

I've never totally dropped out of society, however. I guess that that experience makes you a richer person.

I'm relatively new here (a month) but I can say that Steemit has already changed me - I came for the money, stayed because I realized that I enjoy sharing my thoughts with other people and receiving feedback from them.

Cheers!

My view on steemit is similar to yours. I totally agree that steemit platform can make you a better person and get a reward for it.
Thank you for sharing.

Amazing writeup
I have learnt more than a thousand things on steemit andi am very happy that i am on this platform because it has helped me connect with a lot of people. Steemit promotes love to all ots users. I see all of us here as one big family that grows together. We never leave anyone behind.
God bless you all.

I'm new to this community...but reading posts like yours on Steem makes me want to go deeper and to share even more with everybody. Together we go forth!

I wish I can also do this. I mean, I want to but I don't have the courage. Or am I just lazy. Lol

it took a long trek down a counter productive path before I was ready to change my entire way of being.

Hmm, my weakness in blogging is that I was not born to be a good writer. Not expecting to be the best though, but I just want to express my thought with a good expression, at least. Plus I'm soooo lazy LOL I just hope someday, someone/something will slap me to realize life. Haha

The wage slave path is an unhappy one!

i'm newbie in steemit you are right
steemit change me little
now i like learning how to write, and read more ....you like me love steemit more

Awesome... Steemit has really enhanced lives. Mine is also a typical example. I am happy for you...

This is quite an encouragement. Thank you @inquiringtimes for sharing your story. Although I’m still new at Steemit but reading your story insprires and reminds me that we need to work hard and and also perservere in what we love doing otherwise we won’t be able to rip the fruits of our labour. I’m looking forward to exploring and learning new things from this platform and from other fellow steeemians too!

Thank you for the post

Great post @inquiringtimes, its motivation for me

resteem

Follow me please please please

the way to attract followers is by leaving thoughtful comments that relate to the post you are commenting on, and creating quality content. not by begging. sorry. Another way to attract interest to your account is by matching your commenting activities to people who share your interests. <3 (also, you have way too many resteems today, which makes it very difficult for me to see what type of content you actually create)

informative news..
thanks a lot....

I need to talk to you. There's an opportunity for crypto journalists in Dash....

i just dmed you <3 I'm interested, but if you have direction of something specific I'll hear it out. I have a grand vision for epic dash articles in the future, tbh

Good post

My friend I hope you realised that for being successful you sadly have to be a bit selfish, I was as same as my friend, always good to everyone always stepping out of the way for the sake of others, I never once looked only for myself, I always took care of others around me whoever they have been, I never watched a person through their chlotes or accessories or cars or houses... And me and my friend are now very much alike but still very much the same, he worked for 2 years now from when he was 16 and now he hasn't got a dime and everybody around him do, whenever he could he borrowed money and this and that and never wanted it back and he wasn't rich or even medium rich.... I was the same working from when I was 16 in more ways than a human person at that age can think of and all money I had I spent on bitches, friends and not so much on family... I realised that if I were a bit selfish from now on I will provide much more to my family and my well being and much less to fake friends and associates and bitches, they are strictly business now, only true friends are appreciated, good luck on your adventure friend!

what I'm trying to explain is that you can serve your self by serving others... that is particularly present and possible here on steem. my short experience here is a testament to that principle.

My pleasure to read a wonderful article! <3

I concur hehe as thumper once said "if you don't have anything nice to say, the don't say nothin' at all" steemit is revolutionizing mine and many people I know's lives. I am so grateful for this platform! Nice post :)

Monty heart is with you!
Now I understand your motivation in the " welcome to steemit" contests in a deeper way! That amazing to see what this platform can do for people and I'm glad it helped you to find a niche in the world.

For me- what's so great about steemit is that you can read, enjoy and creat your content without regard to revenues as we have great people to interact with and get feedbacks from in here, especially if you found a specific community that fits you the best, and when you put time and work to you're posts and comments - you might even make money by our of that!

Nice story.

thanks for the steem that you've shared! I will make sure that those will be utilized well. In the coming days, I will be designing my year long activity/projects. I hope the steemit community will help and support these activities. I will keep you posted @inquiringtimes.

I am new on Steemit. I have been glued to this platform. I am enjoying and discovering people with similar minds like myself. Learning and reading and discovering is my passion. l appreciate great writing. I am on a journey to find myself also learning to develop my writing skills and putting together ideas that have meaning. Reading your post is motivational. I look forward to connect with you and everyone else in this community.

@inquiringtimes I am happy to note that steemit has positive effect on you. On my end, steemit is a beacon of hope that we have a way out of this rat race. I feel you on this sometimes I feel like my life is just a series of monotony. Steemit is allowing me to explore ideas that are life changing.it has bee. A big chunk of my schedule since I joined.i am. Less lonely as I know when I log in I can always interact with people who have something to be happy than complain about

Absolutely great story! The real deal mate! I added you because of this story. These are the kind of ppl i can relate to on the site. I know the feeling of searching for an outlet to learn and teach , be the educator and be educated. Well written! Added!

I'm happy for you that this platform gave you so much. I can relate to some of the life experiences you mentioned. I'm not sure yet about steem, it takes up a lot of time and seems too addictive (well, that's not really the platforms fault, even though there are some game related elements which makes it more likely) and I'm still passive instead of trying to post and make my idea a reality here - and also improve my writing and write about how I'm improving.. (Also, I think this post could be entered to this contest if you change a tag: https://steemit.com/testimonialtuesday/@kus-knee/the-old-dog-initiates-testimonial-tuesday-share-encourage-and-earn-week-1 )

I feel it as well. With steemit, my reading passion increases.

Steem makes me awake.
A new cool social site/blog which pay you for spending your timing there where many top social sites doesn't pay you for your time..
Hat's off to steem.

Not only other social media don't pay you (and they don't have to, this is not about money) but they steel your digital existence, THEY SELL YOU ! And naively, trustfully, for the sake of this new digital era of human interaction, we give up peacefully our data, our privacy, our rights, to corporations hoping they stay in good hands... I'm deeply grateful and hopeful for Steemit to be the new platform that will help us move away from these schemes and practices.

I cannot agree to you more about steemit making us better. I really can feel that now, it makes me push myself to be better in my writing, photography and interacting with people and I love it so much.

So heartwarming to read your article and the comments below and feel that many of us are here to learn and help others. I love to believe that this is part of our beautiful evolution as humans, to come together, to grow, to love and help ourselves and each other in a peaceful way. This is way more effective to make the world a better place. I will ever continue to dream and believe that WE collectively can change our society for the better and it starts from within ourselves.

THANK YOU for sharing <3

My mentor I respect your attitude towards life and this community having you on this platform is a blessing to a lot of people.

Very happy here to hear about the positive effect of this technology and community on your life. Glad to have run into you on my blog, and Thank You for your visits and interaction there! :D
