It’s like mental disorders are being given full coverage, to help the people who don’t understand it to get an idea of what people with mental disorders feel. If you have experienced this, then you must have seen words like clinical depression, anxiety, sociopaths and narcissistic personality disorder. These are all mental disorders, but this article would be focusing on the Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

Firstly, what is the Narcissistic Personality Disorder? Borrowing Wikipedia’s definition, “a Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is a personality disorder in which there is a long-term pattern of abnormal behavior characterized by exaggerated feelings of self-importance, an excessive need for admiration, and a lack of understanding of others’ feelings. People affected by it often spend a lot of time thinking about achieving power or success, or about their appearance. They often take advantage of the people around them. The behavior typically begins by early adulthood, and occurs across a variety of situations.”

Who then is a narcissist? A narcissist is a person who suffers from the symptoms of a Narcissistic personality disorder. He is typically said to be a person who has a too high opinion of his self-importance and who constantly needs to feel admired and validated. One of the more glaring characteristics of a narcissist which is also where the name ‘narcissist’ originated from is their total obsessive love with themselves and lack of empathy towards others.

People who suffer from the narcissistic personality disorder have had their entire lives, and it’s relationships totally destroyed. It affects their personal lives, their familial relationships, their sequel relationships and any human interaction they make. And just when you thought that it couldn’t get worse, you discover that narcissistic people actually do get worse when they suffer from depression or when they get addicted to something. When it comes to a narcissist and his relationships, I feel bad for the victims of such a relationship. The thing is narcissistic people are horrible people to do things with. They constantly hurt the person unfortunate enough to fall in love with them. Worse still, they use that love to manipulate the person’s feelings. They are very abusive emotionally and would stoop to making use of one of the most terrible and psyche damaging forms of abuse called gas lighting.

What gaslighting does is to make you feel like you are literally going insane. So, even if it comes from the fact that they don’t want you to ever leave them, I still cannot bring myself to feel sorry for them.

The world of a narcissistic revolves around one thing, himself. What’s more, he expects your own life to also revolve around him too, and when it doesn’t, he lashes out. They maintain very grandiose and false public images and would not take kindly to any threats to that image.

I’m pretty sure that you are thinking. Wow, I’m never going to get myself involved with a narcissistic person. That is a good goal of a bit unrealistic. Why? Narcissists are the chief pretenders. They are very good at pretense that you would not be able to figure out who you married or entered a relationship with until they begin to manifest their characters on you. The only feeling in the world that they care about is theirs. They only care about their own feelings. They would, however, make you fall so hard for them; you’ll break your legs. They would worm themselves into your life and stay there, never leaving and always playing silly games with your feelings.

Narcissistic people are very arrogant people and how could they not be when they feel superior to practically everyone in their lives? They wear their arrogance as a cloak, and if you have hung out with a narcissist before, you would feel very irritated with the fact that they never shut up about themselves and that they also like to always be in the right and that is one thing you would learn about the narcissist. He is always right even when he is not. The arrogance makes them demand preferential treatment wherever they go and don’t care who they have to step on to get that preference.

When something is the center of your life and Universe, you adore and admire it. Narcissistic people want to be the center of attention so much. They enjoy being the one that every other person is talking about. They want to be constantly admired for what they have done or would do. What they truly want is someone who would place them on a pedestal and practically worship them. They want to be the god in your life, and that might not be acceptable to some women hence their short relationships. People can hardly work with them because of their attitude and more superior stance that they take at work.

Because they are unable to love any other person except themselves, they can only take advantage of that person’s feelings for them, and if you are wondering how on earth a person can fall in love with a narcissist, it’s simple. The narcissistic person is a very envious person because he does not have what you have and whatever it seems like he has is a smoke screen because they are pathological liars and so are good at creating smoke screens. So, they just don’t want to accept that deep down, someone else is better than they are and always would be better than they are. They can’t be the best always.

8. THEY THINK THAT EVERYONE IS INFERIOR TO THEM

Even if they don’t know better, it is very hard to associate with a person who believes that they are the most superior people in the world and need to connect with other elite and superior people. They act as if they are above authority and even sometimes demand extra attractions.

Nobody truly knows why narcissistic people actually do turn out the way that they do. How does a normal, loving child grow up onto this? But from research, it had been discovered that the environment in which someone grew could instigate the manifestation of those genes.
