It happens suddenly: they become the first person you want to tell good news to, their laugh becomes your favorite song, and you can't help it that their smile leaves you giddy long after they have gone. It happens suddenly. Suddenly you are falling head over heart in love with a face that at first looked unremarkable to you. At first they were a side character, someone to enter from stage right and leave after the show, they were blurry in your vision because you weren't seeing them whole. But now, everything is too much in focus and you can't help but notice it all: the way they cross their arms when they're listening, the way they bite their lip when they're nervous, the way light seems to follow them as if they are a lighthouse guiding you home. It happens suddenly, and suddenly you can't imagine a life without them. You build an existence out of these promises made on summer nights where the cool ocean breeze blows insecurities out to sea. You imagine the possibilities as they run through your mind like a live wire and for once life seems exciting and liberating and electric. You fashion hope from their presence and suddenly, the future seems worth getting to. It happens suddenly; and suddenly, everything, sounds an awful lot like you.
