Movies have got us believing more in fiction than reality. How almost everything ends on a happy note, mostly love. How Prince Charming comes, sweeps you off your feet, grants your every wish and despite all adversities you face you still get your happy ever after ending or how a love between ordinary people is dramatized, where the leads always never runs out of lines that keeps your heart melting even when the waters of the plots are stirred. Even I wish my lovelife was like that filled with ups and downs, riding the storm can of scenarios. Loving someone so purely and truly only to be disappointed but then discovering that I had all I was searching for in form of a friend or meeting serendipitously meeting someone for the first time with whom I share a strong connection with and instantly knowing this is the one for me.
We don't choose who we fall for that's how it has always been but we can choose who to building a relationship with. Falling in love is easy, but the real test is in staying in love with that person. Most people are just good at falling in love but find it very difficult to stay in love. We all have this wonderful perception of Love, how love is loyal, faithful, undying, selfless, forgiving and many more. We have painted a perfect picture of what love should be in our heads and anything short of that is unacceptable. We refuse to face the reality of what love brings which is it Imperfection. There is no perfect love in this context.
An old couple who had been together for over 35 years was asked a question by a young couple that just got married and were facing some difficulties in their relationship, how they had stayed in love and married for so long? The old couple replied by falling in love with your partner again as if it was the first time, by constantly reminding themselves of the contract they took on the altar when they got married and knowing that they are in this for life, for better or for worst, learning to work as a team and also communicating their feelings whether positive or negative, not taking the negatives to heart and always finding a way to work things out because love alone cannot hold a marriage but is a very important and vital to repairing whatever wrong in the relationship.
Intrigued by the response the young couples asked: how do you fall in love with your partner again? The old lady laughed and answered that's the easy part, you start dating again, doing the things you both enjoyed, go on date, have some alone time and rediscover yourselves.
The young man wanted to know how the old couple had handled cheating in their relationship if there had been any at all. The old man replied that he and his wife has been faithful to each other, that society had always labelled and expected men to be cheats and that he wanted to show that some men can and are also faithful to their wives.
