Discrimination is a disease! Did you hear me? Yes, discrimination s a very strong disease which has eaten neck deep into the society like a cankerworm. Pitiably, you may not even know that you are doing it which is the strangest but true fact.
First of all what is discrimination ?
The above refers to the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex. This is a simple but complex definition because day in day out we do this to our fellow men, some even go as low as doing it to their own family members, expressly or impliedly.
When a person feels too proud of herself/ himself and feels that he/she is superior to others, there is the tendency of such a person looking down on others and seeing other persons as low lives and less humans. Hello friend, the fact that your head is square shaped does not mean that other people's round shaped heads make them less human.
Can i burst your bubbles? No one was created perfect without any blemish or hitch. Appreciation of who we are and gratitude to God for the creation of others is very key. See the good in others because there is definitely something about you that you may wish was bigger or smaller or moderate, there is also something about you that you would want to change, there is something in someone else that you wish you had.
The worst of it all is racism which has become a norm gnawing deeply in man. This is also a close niche to the above definition, discrimination. Racism simply means prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
I may want to ask again, "who told you you re better?" What makes your race or skin colour superior? What makes you stand out such that you look down others? Were you created by another superior being other than God? If we were created by the same God, why the fuss about superiority in race or colour? Variety is the spice of life which is a known cliche. Some are created black, some white, some chocolate...name it.
A very disrespectful and disgusting example is looking down on albinos. This is very wrong because you are not God. You did not create them with your hands so why treat them with disrepute and spite them. Why call them names? They have a right to love and be loved. They have a right to be heard and a right to speak out. Simply because their hair colour is different from yours makes them unique and should treated with awe and respect. Simply because they have issues with their eyes does not make them blind. Many of them have achieved academic excellence with their purportedly "blindness" You have no right to disrespect anyone. The beggars on the streets, the madman on the road, that old man or old woman in tattered clothes etc treat them well. They donot deserve your emotional abuse or you throwing shades at them. You may not be able to achieve what they have achieved in your lifetime so be mindful and respect others.
Some persons may tag it as a joke but you may just be inflicting wounds which may leave indelible marks in the hearts of those you joke with in an abusive manner. Many times, we hear of suucide attempts and actual suicide commission, it doesn't cross our minds that we may have directly or indirectly caused such mortality occurrence by the our manner of words or actions. Many a time we feign ignorance but we "knowingly " hurt thse we ought to protect. Quite sad and shameful to say the least.
Guys, let love lead, what you wouldn't want anyone to say or do to you, do not do it to others. It hurts, especially when you ought to know better being educated and enlightened. Jesus has said it all, love another just as i have loved you. Let your actions, words, deeds, thoughts towards one another potray these four letter words- LOVE.
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another" - John 13:34
