History

While some attribute the celebration of Mother's Day to a commercial strategy, the reality is that its origin had another meaning.
Celebrations for Mother's Day began in ancient Greece, at parties in honor of Rhea, the mother of Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto.

The origin of the current Mother's Day dates back to the seventeenth century, in England. At that time, due to poverty, a way of working was in the big houses or palaces, where roof and food were also given.
One Sunday of the year, called (Mother's Sunday), the servants and employees were given the day off to go visit their mothers, and they were allowed to bake a cake (known as mothers pie) to take as present.
This celebration was developed jointly, in forests and meadows.
Although some English in America retained the tradition of the British Sunday of the Mothers, in the United States the first public celebration of Mother's Day was held in 1872, in Boston, at the initiative of the writer Julia Ward Howe (creator of the US National Anthem ). He organized a large peaceful demonstration and a religious celebration, inviting all the mothers who were victims of the war to give up their children for the militia.
After several parties in Boston organized by Julia Ward, Mother's Day was forgotten. It was not until 1907, in Grafton, in western Virginia, that Mother Mothers Day returned in the United States, with Ana Jarvis, a housewife, who began a national campaign to establish a day dedicated entirely to American mothers.
After the death of her mother, Ana Jarvis decided to write teachers, religious, politicians, lawyers and other influential personalities to support her in her project to celebrate Mother's Day, on the anniversary of the death of her own mother, the second Sunday of May.
It had many answers, and in 1910 this date was already celebrated in almost all United States.
In 1914, President Woodrow W. signed the proclamation of Mother's Day as a national holiday, which was to be celebrated on the second Sunday of May.

The first official celebration took place on May 10, so the second Sunday of May was adopted by many other countries in the world as the date of "Mother's Day."
