Happy Valentine's Day - A Family Celebration!

in love •  7 years ago

My wife and I believe that love should be celebrated every day, not just on Valentine's Day. We married when we were just 21 years old and did not have a lot of money to spend on elaborate dinners and dozens of roses.

Instead, we created our own special tradition for celebrating Valentine's Day. And once our family started growing, our kiddos enjoyed the tradition just as much as my wife and I do.

Our Tradition

For as long as I can remember, my wife and I have ordered pizza for Valentine's Day. And not just any type of pizza, but the best kind of pizza in the world (in my opinion) - HAWAIIAN PIZZA!

In the early days of marriage, we would pick up some sparkling grape juice. Now we buy Sprite so that the kids can have something fun to drink. I know what you are thinking. This crazy couple likes to drink the hard stuff.

And somewhere along the way, my wife started baking heart-shaped cookies. My favorite is the chocolate chip cookie. I have an important job. I refine the shape of the heart by cutting away some of the edges. I love this job because I get to sample the cookie before everyone else.

Share the love!

Our kiddos love to celebrate Valentine's Day. They have not yet realized that most people celebrate romantic love on V Day. In our house, we have always chosen to celebrate familial love.

We each passed out our home-made Valentine's Day Card. We enjoyed great food. The company was even better. I am truly a blessed man. I am loved, and I get to love the most incredible people in the entire world.

Your Turn

Let's continue the conversation.

  1. Are you celebrating Valentine's Day this year?
  2. Why or why not?
  3. How do you show love to the people you care most about?

Thanks for stopping by. I look forward to hearing from you.

Great way of celebrating Valentine's Day! Involving the whole family is true tradition that not many know about or follow.

The way your youngest kiddo is looking at you, with complete awe, says it all!

I am a blessed man. Blessed to be able to celebrate life as a family and be able to celebrate being a family.

Our youngest has some great looks. She has been very loving lately with me. I like it!

My wife and I believe that love should be celebrated every day, not just on Valentine's Day.

Totally agree with you.

You have a lovely family. Pizza and cookies looks yummy :) Well, I don't celebrate Valentines day because i think we don't need one specific day to express love for loved ones.

Thanks for the kind words. The food was great. My wife is a great cook. And we picked up the pizza from a local store. Keep loving the important people in your life everyday.

LOL @sumatranate, I had no idea that you had all girls! What a blessing! (Girls stick with their families later on... more so than boys.) hehe

I usually just call them my kiddos. I am truly blessed! Your statement is true. My wife does a much better job of staying in contact with her family than I do.

What a lovely family - you are truly blessed! Thanks for sharing your Valentine's tradition. There's something special about creating these memories with your kids!

We acknowledge Valentine's but Derek and I have never done anything special. This year I wanted to create a tradition for the girls but....we have a newborn and life is busy LOL Next year, by God's grace! That being said, I was just thinking that we should order pizza tonight and then I saw your post LOL. Guess that's what we're doing tonight :)

You still have time to find your family's special tradition. Your little ladies will really appreciate the traditions. Mine do!

Thanks for the kinds words. I am indeed blessed.

I love reading about your family's Valentine's Day traditions! And those heart cookies look amazing.

This year, we set up a small scavenger hunt for our two children to find their gifts. My 7 year old is getting really good at reading, so he read the clues and had the help of his 4 year old brother to find all the things. They had a blast!

And like we do every year, we made a ton of cards for family members.

That is a great idea. We are still making cards (even as I am typing). Our middle child made 3 each for every member of the family. And they love making cards for friends too. I hope we do not have too extreme of an impact on the environment. We need to make sure we use recycled paper.

Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate you following my blog!

We always celebrate diiferently. Not on purpose. It just depends on our work schedules, what we are in the mood for. We mostly celebrate this day as a family but sometimes my hubby and me go somewhere like on a day trip or just for dinner. This year my daughter got flowers and candy, I got some flowers and some berries, my daughter and I made a present (kids hand prints in salt dough ) for my husband and didn't do anything special besides that. But hubby and I are planning to go on a day trip in the near future.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I think it is cool that you have flexibility in your celebration. My wife and I try to find to get away for a day or two about twice a year. We usually do so in quiet times of the year.

Sounds like your activities are plenty special!

Hi @sumatranate, what a creative way to create love shape pizza for valentine celebration!

This Steemit Valentine video definitely dedicated to both of you:

Thanks for the comment. We love being creatative as we share life together. Have a blessed day!

When my kids were little we gave them Valentine's. That for my husband I just like to make his dinner plate on days he's worked hard, and bring him out cold glass of water when he's working around our house or in the yard. He likes to pick up a package of seeds to bring to me when he makes a trip to the hardware store. Sometimes he picks me up a V8 when he goes to fill up his tank. We just love each other everyday. Now that my kids are older they buy me Valentine's gifts. 😊

Everday, maturing love is good love. I love to hear how couples show their love. What speaks to me may not speak to someone else. It is really cool that V8 and a package of seeds speak to your heart!

Thanks for adding to the conversation.

He thinks it’s cool too. If diamonds were required to keep me happy, he’d be single! lol

lovely family picture! :)

Thanks for the comment and kind words. I am blessed!
