The iconic death of that true lover, Valentine is celebrated throughout the world, every 14th of February. This day is believed to be the day Valentine died for love and hence is considered a day when love is to be shown. For this, it means love is celebrated on this day, not lovers. Be that as it may, love isn't meant to be shown once in a year. Everyday is supposedly lovers day. I won't be talking about that today, another time probably.
The concept of showing love on Valentine's day is being misunderstood. Many people treat this day as a day for lovers who are in a mutual relationship and hence, share the goodness of this day with their better halves. In my own opinion, I believe this day should be meant for showing love to everyone around us and I'll be focusing on the poor and needy in our surroundings in this article.
We enjoy living a good life. Steemit rewards us for giving the community our original contents and in real sense, it could be interpreted as the blockchain showing us love for adding values to the community.
How about we think about the less privileged.
I do tell people this; the thought of the less privileged - the poor and needy in our environs should be on our minds everyday. We need to help them feel our presence in their life by getting close to them. Relieving them of their burdens, enjoying our good times with them and sharing their hard times together are our responsibilities. So in this season of love, how else shall we enjoy it if not by showing love to everyone around us.
A Yoruba proverb goes thus:
There's no sweetness in dining together on the same table when one of us is feeding on an empty plate.
Our society could only get better and safer when we all live in total harmony. When:
- there's no class
- there's no boundary (total freedom)
- love is shared among us in every manner.
For this, I'm giving us ideas on how best to spend the Valentine's Day.
Best ways to spend the Valentine's day
- Visiting the motherless babies home
- Giving out some foods to beggars.
- Giving out some gifts to the poor around us.
- Visiting Government owned institutions to spend the day with little children.
- Giving hope to the hopeless with good motivational speeches
- Spending the day with our family members.
- Going out with friends and colleagues at work.
There are several other ways to spend the day with regard to showing love. **The concept of celebrating the day with our better halves only needs to be adjusted. Let love rains and let the less privileged enjoy the blessings of the day with us.
