PANAMÁ Update: 1 Month to date

What has Studio 21-D TO DO with Salamanders?

Dear Friends and Followers,

I can't believe it's already one month to date since I set foot in here in the Jewel of Latin America: Panamá. It is a perfect time for an update.

Today I went for the first time to Albrook Mall, the biggest mall in Latin America. It's impressive. I didn't take any pictures, because so many already exist.

The mall is long and narrow: nearly three-quarters of a mile long. I walked it four times. Two times each level. It was nice, but I had enough after about 3 hours. I did get a few bits and bobs, just not the things I came for. Namely, studio monitors. Music Planet looked promising, but it turned out to be a rather small outlet with limited choices. They pointed me in the right direction, to another store in Panamá, which I had exactly what I was looking for.

Panamá, on the way home from Albrook:

Lawyers and Bank Papers

But before that, I went to my lawyers, who needed a last piece of papers to present my case to Panamanian Immigration: A Bank Statement. @choogirl advised me early on to just take out ATM cash, as it is rather difficult to transfer money into the Panama banking system.

Banking rules. Banks rule here, too.

I finally got enough to make a decent deposit. I think the minimum was USD 5000. So I added a bit for good measure. Hunting ATMs that allow me to withdraw fee free was fruitless. Still, less expensive than other options.

Manhunt

Look at that beautiful picture above. It was a bit of stop and go, as Panamá City is hopelessly congested most times of the day. In addition, we were stopped three times by serious police who were on a manhunt. I didn't get the details, but it these controls was all over town.

Salamander Biz

As I installed my brand spanking new monitors, something caught my eye on the beige carpet. There!

  • It's moving fast.
  • Now, it's hiding.
  • I got enough of a look at it to determine, it was a miniature Salamander.

Cute. You see, I am on the 21st Floor in the City. How did it get here? Where is it anyway?

I am sure it will find it's way out tonight, to climb all the way to the Penthouse. Later. Rest my little friend.

Unfortunately, I wasn't fast enough to take a picture. @disarrangedJane was quick to point out that what I saw was a Medellin climbing salamander. Here is what it looks like, the picture from Wikipedia.

Less GPS Needed

I am a bit more oriented now. It's great. I have no regrets coming here. Most people are courteous and helpul. And I don't mind the heat. I love it. Lower 90's (32 Celsius) are normal daytime temperatures. As the raining season approaches, the humidity becomes thicker. That I can deal with.

Studio with Studio Reference Monitors

Here they are. Left: Initial setup. Right Properly placed and configured. Now, I am missing are a green screen and a synthesizer. In good time.

FM Radio Station?

I asked my lawyer to check out what's required to obtain an FM frequency in Panamá. Maybe, just maybe, I will launch a FM station, English speaking here. Let's see what she comes back with. It is all very exciting - and I enjoy every day. There are frustrating times, but they're really minor annoyances. @choogirl said it exactly this way if I remember correctly.

I hope you enjoyed this update from lovely Panamá. Please let me know in the comments below. :)

Oh Panama is such a lovely place, everytime I go I never want to leave 🌴. The studio looks great! and the view is fantastic. Go for the radio station! it's a great idea since there aren't many in english with good music curation (at least as far as I know) I believe it could work (:⚡️

El edificio tornillo my favorite building there. Enjoy the Corvina.

Oh yeah - but it's half empty because of problems with the building. It's relatively close by.
I think an identical structure stands in Singapore.
Loving it here in Panamá. :)

It's nice to see that you feel well in Panama :)...and your studio looks great..hope you got good monitors! Opening a FM station sounds like a good plan - i worked about 15 years ago for a small one in spain and it was so much fun. ...stay tuned ;)

Monitors are great - not that high-end but the frequency is from 38 Hz - 20 kHz, not too bad in this price range.

RADIO can be lotsa fun... Let's see what we can do here. :D

MSPWaves Panama - Love Panamá

Free at last my friend, glad you are enjoying the heat and new adventure! The best part, when I come to visit i'll have two tour guides.

Name the day kubby. It's only a small hop over from FL. :)
You can stay here if you like unless @choogirl has a better option?

I'm simultaneously jealous and happy for you!!! <3

Oh - I can understand... :)
xx

Good to hear you are settling in nicely, Panama can be a shock for some. LOL, Me? well, I'm past my 11th-year of my 4-month vacation here so guess that speaks for itself. I'm off to Taboga to look at a sailboat tomorrow, have you been there yet? It's very lovely, I blogged recently about my last vist if you scroll down my blog a bit. More to come soon...
Cheers

Oh I love it here. No regrets.
Where are you based?

I've been building a small homestead near Ocu for the last 4-5 years but now I'll be based on the Pacific Ocean for years to come. :-)
My wife is a land lover & I'm a water baby, She lived & worked on boats with me for a great part of our first years together, Now she has her land base and I'm going to sea where I belong. And we shall distribute our time visiting each other as life permits. The future is left to be written yet, But be assured I will fill you in here as time passes. :-)
Cheers

Glad you had time to read my update.
Love you too, Owly Princess!

I like Albrook Mall.

It's a Lot's to see + Lot's a food place. I was on a mission and had to get my monitors...

As that Austrian guy said: I'll Be Back!
