My new book, "Liar, Liar, Sitting In the Choir" is in the editing stages. Lying is a terrible thing, but it is so accepted in today's society that we often almost expect people to lie if they're a salesman, a lawyer, our government...I could go on half the day with the list. But I have looked to the Bible for my definition and information concerning cheating, lying, deception, deceit.
My Bibles read --some using different words but the same message --that a liar is "a person who knowingly utters falsehood; one who declares to another as a fact what he knows to be not true, and with an intention to deceive him. The uttering of falsehood by mistake, and without an intention to deceive, does not constitute one a liar."
An acquaintance asked me how many times the Bible the discussed lying so I told him I would check if possible. I soon came to the realization that it wasn't at all possible because the word has more than one definition. You can "lie" down, for instance.
"Liar, Liar, Singing In the Choir," is fiction, about life in a small coastal town in Georiga. The story begins just after World War II and ends with the two main characters (a male and female) who have been best friends their entire lives but have never dated, must less tied the knot. It's told from the female's perspective. The male is a chronic liar, and I've quoted Scriptures throughout the entire novel concerning lying. Those quotes aren't fiction.
At the risk of seeming a promoter, I think it's my best work yet. I'm not an expert by any means. It's something I have had a problem with throughout my life. There may be a time or two during the book when I told a story from my own book of life. But I'll leave you hanging on that one.
Be blessed. God is still on His throne.
