Enjoy this photo while I took about whether you should buy a MacBook Air.
The MacBook Air is one of Apple’s base model computers. It is intriguing to be able to buy a OS operating laptop for $999 from Apple. All of Apple’s computers have long lasting battery life and a slim minimal design making it easier to be more portable than any other brand. But for $999 for the MacBook Air is it really worth buying the base model?
When many people are looking at buying a MacBook Air they question if it’s worth the money since they are able to get an excellent Windows operating system for the same price. In today’s market many people ask if the MacBook Air is outdated because it doesn’t have retina display like the other OS computers. The processors are a bit out dated as well, compared to every other new computer out there. Not to mention if you buy the base model and come across the need for more power, because you find out you need more power than anticipated, you aren’t able to upgrade the internals like other Windows computers.
A lot of people in the forums wonder how the “outdated” MacBook Air handles the newer OS software updates. This is what one of the bloggers posted “In response to the previous post, my mid-2013 MacBook Air works great with OS Sierra. I upgraded the day after Sierra was unveiled to the masses, and had no trouble at all. There is now a Compact Alex voice in addition to the one that comes standard on all Macs. He doesn't sound all that different, but I have noticed some improvements. Safari is working great on my end, as is Mail and most other standard apps I use. As mentioned in my previous reply to this thread, my only major complaint about the Mac thus far is with .pdf support. VoiceOver doesn't seem to work that well with Preview, unless I'm missing something but I don't think I am. I've tried Automator, but from what I have heard support for that is diminishing. There are 3rd-party apps which supposedly work well for decoding .pdf files and other images to work with VO, but I haven't gotten any of them to work thus far. My MacBook Air has remained speedy.” Apple could make an update to fix these problems for current owners, this will keep them from blogging bad news about the computer.
Now Apple Markets the MacBook Air saying “macOS is the operating system that powers everything you do on a Mac. macOS High Sierra brings new forward‑looking technologies and enhanced features to your Mac. It’s macOS at its highest level yet.” But it ignores the fact of how the computer handles the operating system. The Company makes you assume that it can handle the operating system, but when compared to Apple’s other computers it doesn’t compete.
Apple could address these questions but stating what the computer is exactly intended for instead of saying “Thin. Light. Powerful. And ready for anything.” Which is just not true. The computer is ready for light workloads for example only online shopping, or using Microsoft word, but nothing else. Apple could have a person hired to answer these questions in Apple’s question blog. But just because Apple is marketing the MacBook Air this way doesn’t mean they are losing business. Apple is most likely using pricing psychology to make customers purchase the more expansive computers that they offer.
Good article. Just spent an arm and leg on a top end Mac book pro. If it was not for the security of mac, I would have gone windows. More power for less.
