This caterpillar will not reach out and bite you, but if someone comes into contact with these hairs, it will emit poisons into the environment, causing you to become ill.
Even if you locate a caterpillar, leave it alone and allow its natural enemies to control its population; there are a variety of other insects that will prey on it at various phases of its life cycle.
