I spotted this firefly in my front garden last summer. I quickly grabbed my camera and hoped that he wouldn't fly off before I could get a photo. He didn't and I got my photo! I had to laugh though because I have never seen a firefly so covered with pollen. Turns out that some fireflies will eat the nectar or pollen of flowers. Looked like this little guy was swimming in it...lol!
I also couldn't help thinking back to when I was many years young and spending hours outside with my siblings catching fireflies or, as we called them back then, lightning bugs and putting them in a jar. The next morning, they would be gone from the jar and my mom would say "they must've gotten loose". I found out (at some point) that they didn't get loose at all but that my mom had been releasing them back outside so they wouldn't die. 💖

How cool!!! I got a picture last summer of one that landed in my garden. We collected lightning bugs in the heat of the summer night, just as dusk was coming to town.
Superb macro and I can even see the detail on his antennae! Good luck on the contest!

Did the same thing when in childhood, Dee, collected fireflies in a jar with air holes punched in the top. Lovely capture of the firefly.
