Meet "Rolly Polly", My New Muse

I have been eager to practice my macro photography using the dissecting scope - not just on the extremely tiny, but also on something a bit more substantial. This little buggy is the perfect size and has lots of awesome features to practice on. So I gave him a nick name, "Rolly Polly", and we are gonna be taking a look at various parts of him over the next few days.

Here you can get a bit of a sense of scale, as well as observe his awesome plated armor extremely up close. The object to the left is a needle. Rolly Polly is just over 4mm in length and just over 2mm in width, so he is much bigger than many of the features I've taken photographs of recently.

Finally from a technical perspective, this photo is also interesting, as I did not use the AMScope camera to achieve it. Instead, using a flexible tripod, I affixed my phone directly to the microscope and lined up the phone camera with the beam of light coming from one of the 10x objectives. This resulted in a much higher resolution series of photos than I could achieve with the 3MP AMScope camera. However, as you'll see tomorrow, when I flipped Rolly Polly over and tried the same technique on his more detailed front, the results were less than perfect.
