Photography ideas - Part 10

in macrophotography •  6 years ago  (edited)

Need new ideas? Maybe you haven't tried this one yet.

Think about the background and light when taking macro photographs. Of course this is something that you need to think every time you photograph anything, but if you're used to working with controlled artificial lights and controlled background, do things differently this time.

How was it made?

Equipment: Camera, macro lens or extension rings, flowers.

These flower photos were taken in front of a window. Natural sunlight, partly cloudy and no direct sunlight. When the sun peeked out between the clouds, it was reflected from the opposite building. The background is a dirty window and pictures were taken downward to the gray street. Occasional cars, people 'n stuff (seagulls & pigeons) in the background. I had a separate macro lens and wide angle lens on top of my regular 18-55mm lens and I also used 13mm, 21mm and 31mm extension rings separate and together. So quite a mix and match with surprises in the background and on the windowsill.

More photos of the same bouquet in posts: Am I here just for the pretty pictures? and Green Thursday - Color Challenge.

Finally take a look at the giant monster lurking beside the flowers at my other accounts post: Apua, jättiläinen! by @jokinmenipieleen. The text is in Finnish, but the picture is universal.

Nice effect, and yes we should pay attention to the background.

I really have to thank you for commenting my first floating cherry photo. That comment initiated my photography ideas post series. And even though I'm not a professional photographer I still want to share things I've learned or things that I'm still learning. I've posted photos which I've taken few years ago, but I've also taken lots of new photos. And as my ideas will run out someday (I hope not too soon), in the meantime I can have some fun with those ideas and maybe at the same time give new ideas to others. I try to invent my own ideas as much as I can, but some are just versions of those ideas that many other have done before.

And now that you commented this, I felt a sting in my conscience (if that is a phrase one can use in English language) because I haven't commented or upvoted your posts for a long time. I just haven't had the time to be here in steemit. I find that most of my time here goes to fix and polish my English grammar and sentences.

But I really like your posts and the topics you write. And I will try to comment and up vote you more. :)

Don't feel bad about that, it is fine. I also find I am not responding enough to everybody although I do try.

I have partly switched to the esteem app (desktop version) which has some nice features to keep track of things. Time will always be an issue, but for me, having a system a little more structured than my feed to keep track of people, will help a lot. I will post about it soon.

O, and I hear you on the grammar thing. I am updating posts all the time, wondering what the h*** I was thinking when writing it :)

Keep going on those photograph ideas. I may not always respond, but when I find them while browsing, I always enjoy reading them.

Great article. The bacground is a importent thing wich is easy to forget when taking photos.
