Large Huntsman Spider

in macrophotography •  7 years ago

This is the Social Huntsman, , a spider of the Sparassidae family. It's quite a large spider. This one would be about 100mm across (including the legs). It's named the Social Huntsman because it lives in colonies which can number into the hundreds of spiders. At the moment they seem to be colonising my garage :-)

All of the photos were taken with a Canon 7D and Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro lens.

Holy smoke! Thats a nasty one :)

:-) It certainly doesn't have the cute factor but they are fascinating creatures none the less.

Um, what's so "social" about it? It doesn't look very sociable to me 8-).

I don't like to socialise with them either - Unless taking their photograph is considered to be social interaction :-)

Oh gosh, I am not sure what I would do if I came across this spider, I do appreciate their beauty though!

Running away is always an option :-)

haha yeah a very good option!
