Twenty-eight arrests and 40 searches led to the seizure of 29 firearms, nearly $ 350,000 in cash and various quantities of narcotics: the police unveiled Thursday the record of the vast police operation carried out Monday against the network Drug traffickers linked to the Italian mafia in Montreal .
The individuals targeted by this strike would be linked to the clan of the caims Raynald Desjardins and Giuseppe De Vito, known to be enemies of the Rizzuto clan.
In total, some 200 policemen from the Montreal Police Department, the Sûreté du Québec, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Laval and Terrebonne municipal police forces participated in this major round-up.
According to the police, the criminal organization targeted "controlled the [drug] market in the eastern part of the island of Montreal, including the supply of cocaine, marijuana and synthetic drugs".
Of the 28 apprehended suspects, 25 appeared on Thursday at the Montreal courthouse. They were accused of drug trafficking, possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, conspiracy and concealment.
The authorities indicated that the investigation was still ongoing in this case and that further arrests were expected.
