A 18 year old young woman, pregnant, was suffering a failed pregnancy and went to the emergency rooms of a Catholic hospital and a Baptist hospital in Texas. Texas in the only state in the America where emergency rooms are exempt from EMTLA, the law that requires an ER doctor to provide suitable emergency care for a pregnant woman.
It was a Catholic hospital, in Texas, and the doctors opted not to end the young woman's pregnancy to save her life. Ken Paxton has made it absolutely clear that he will imprison a doctor who cannot prove a woman was going to die before providing her care that will involve ending a pregnancy.
She's dead. At 18.
She was completely saveable if they had acted when she first presented herself to the ER.
MAGA absolutely fucking hates women.
It's one thing if Christians insist on doing this to each other and to their own daughters and wives. Don't let them do it to the rest of us.
OUR daughters, OUR wives, OUR mothers, OUR sisters, OUR loved ones deserve care.
Edit, later: we can’t control what MAGA Christians do to each other. My primary care is OUR loved ones, not theirs. And I get that this young lady was a pro-life Christian living in Texas, and I get “FAFO” and I understand the saying about “I didn’t think face eating leopards would eat MY face”… but her life had value anyway. It wasn’t her fault that she was born into a cult, it wasn’t her fault that her culture devalues women. She never had the opportunity to grow beyond it. She didn’t live long enough to learn be better than the place she was born.
My god, she was 18.
