12 point Sunburst blanket for #make-orbake

in make-orbake •  7 years ago

I've been working on a pattern for a blanket. My friend is pregnant and I want to make her something extra-special.

I used a 5.5mm hook and double-knit yarn.

The first five rows are to create the foundation of the blanket.

4 chain and a slipstitch to make a circle.

From that, chain 3 and then make 11 double-chain to make a total of 12.

IMG_3978.JPG

Slipstitch to join that to make the full circle and then chain 3.

That makes the first double stitch (double crochet) and the second needs to go back into the same stitch.

From then, eleven more pairs of double stitch go into the top of the previous row to make 24 double crochets.

Slipstitch and chain three as for the previous row (round).

For the next row, you need one double-stitch (the chain three) and then two double-stitches into the next stitch. The following is one double and then two doubles, all the way around which should end on two doubles to finish the row of 36 double crochets.

Row 4 - Chain 3 then one double into the next stitch and two into the following one. Follow the pattern of 1, 1, 2 all the way around to finish on 2 doubles and slip stitch to complete the circle.

Row 5 - now it gets complicated.

Chain 1 this time and put the single under the slip stitch. Create the points above the V of each double - where the pen sits in the pic above.

The whole row is going to be the same configuration all the way around.

2 double stitch, 2 chain and 2 double stitch in the same stitch, making the point.

NO CHAIN - a single crochet into the 2nd stitch along (miss one) and repeat the 2 double stitch, 2 chain and 2 double stitch in the same stitch as before.

You can carry on with the same colour if you like, it's very effective, but I've chosen to change colours. I'm using a baby yarn in white, with a sparkly thread running through it.

IMG_3994.JPG

Each colour change, start at the bottom of one of the 12 points. Miss one stitch and attach your yarn and start crocheting doubles all the way around.

At the top of the points, you put 2 double-stitched, 2 chain and 2 doubles to continue the point.

At the bottom of the point, miss two stitches to make the decorative hole and keep the shape of the blanket.

As you go around, always make sure to use the stitch immediately AFTER the 2 doubles, 2 chain, 2 doubles at the top of the point.

Miss TWO stitches at the bottom, taking the third stitch on the 'up' to the top of the point.

Carry on around the blanket until it's the size you like.

I think this one is going to be either a throw or a blanket, so it has to be bigger than both of these... but which colour?

I'll let you know how it goes.

Apparently mama @danielles experts also knit, did @danielles learn from his mama @michelle.gent.
Very great, I really like this when first looking at post @danielles

No. Dani learned from my mother, the same as me :)

I only learnt the basic stitches from my grandma but love YouTube and Pinterest and I keep experimenting :)

A very creative family, not everyone can do it.

You have told teaches the full process of sewing with self elaborated pics. Your good self provided a great help if some one want to make this. Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome :)

If it was me, I'd like the lavender. But then, purple of some kind is nearly always my first choice.

I'm going to complete the lavender one... perhaps make it for the baby after all ;)

Knitting.

It always gets me bad memories.

Bad, frustrating, complicated, sad, Why-Oh-God-can't-I-get-this-darn-pattern-right kinda memories.

sigh.

Same here... you don't want to know how long this one took me to work out LOL

Boy or girl? over here that counts with the color (colour)... not sure over there if it matters.. I love the lavender. What a nice gift I haven't done much handwork lately. Very pretty whatever you decide. I wouldn't mind making one of those. I hve a couple of projects I need to finish first.

My friend is definitely female. ;)

The blanket is for her not the baby. The baby is going to be spoiled rotten and I think a gift for her - made for her will be unique in itself.

:)

oh I got ya now...lol
make her some slippers too

She will not wear the slippers, I can tell you that LOL

My grandmother always makes some beautiful and coolest thing using wool.like skullcap, stoles and 24cm*36cm covers to drape on trays.in future I will put some of them in my blog.

I'm pleased you think your grandmother's things are cool! That's awesome :)

Wow !!!!
Amazing blanket...
Thanks for sharing this....
Its really awesome....

Very nice my sister can too but not as good as have this.
Success keeps friends

Ooh, don't tell your sister that!

Of course it is .. Let him spirit.

You are a crafty lady!
Colour for the blanket -does she now if it is a boy or a girl? If not purple or yellow?

Not yet, but the blanket is for her, not the baby :)

Oh, and the blue isn't really blue in 'real' light, it's more a mint green :)

Maybe the blue/green then :D

Yes, that's the way I'm leaning too, I think :)

That will be a fine present for the expectant mum. Home made woolens are very traditional and imo the best gift. It shows you made an effort in this instant gratification world. That is special.

I made her a birthday card last year and she said she loved the gift I gave her, but the card was best because I'd made it.

That's a card that she will always cherish.
My Daughter-in-law is a maker. When someone actually makes something with their own hands it becomes priceless.

I wish I was more crafty but alas it isn't to be - I did teach myself to knit many years ago (22) when I was pregnant so I had something to do while sitting but I can't say that I kept going with it afterwards. I love the lavender colour and it's so nice to be able to give gifts that you've made yourself :)

I agree. Handmade gifts are great. I taught myself to knit... but never how to cast-on. I knitted quite a 'thing' and then it all seemed to unravel from the bottom... ;)

Hahahaha a 'thing' lol! Yip thats about what I call my attempts too :)

Wow! It's really wonderful hand made blanket @michelle.gent. You are very talented. it's really lovely gift. I like your love for your friend.
She is very lucky to have a friend like you.

Thank you. She's as much of a sister as a friend :)

Ooooh, I love your pattern; and it wouldn't matter what colour it ends up to be - I'll bet your friend will absolutely love it!

Thank you. She does like unusual things. I think this will fit :)

This is the most thoughtful present for the mom to be. Something made by hand, with love for someone you think a lot of. Everyone always thinks about the new baby, but mom (and pop too) often get forgotten in the whirlwind that comes with a new babe. I love the pattern and the colours. You are very talented, my friend.

Thank you. I have to admit I stole the idea from Dani. We were chatting about what she was making and the idea to make something for my friend came from the conversation :)

Good day and good publication my friend
