Makeover Monday - Songs You May Not Know Were Covers Pt. 3

in makeovermonday •  6 years ago
In continuation from last week's #makeovermonday, I will be covering songs that you may not know were cover songs. Some of these may shock you. Some of these you may have never even heard on the charts when they were first recorded. Whether you've heard these songs and thought to yourself, "this song sounds familiar", and then found out that it's a cover, chances are, it may be a cover of a cover. It's not that uncommon and you will see an example of that on today's list. Many artists will do their own renditions of songs for one reason or another. It could be to be to pay tribute to a band or because they like the song so much that they want to do their own spin on it. Whatever the case may be, they did so well enough to make their mark on the music charts in one way or another. So, let's get started, shall we? There will be some surprises on today's list I'm sure

1.Love Hurts by Nazareth. Nazareth recorded this hit back in 1974. Did you know it's actually a cover song originally recorded by The Everly Brothers back in 1961? Yup! I guess they did say bye bye to love.

2.The Tide is High by Atomic Kitten. Okay. We all know that Blondie is famous for this song so we know that this is a cover from Blondie. Blondie this song back in 1980. However, did you know that Blondie actually covered this song? It was originally recorded by The Paragons back in 1966.

3.Some Guys Have All The Luck by Rod Stewart. Yeah, you thought this was an original song, didn't you? Nope! Not here! While Mr. Rod Stewart released this in 1984, he actually covered this song. This was originally released by The Persuaders in 1973.

  • Did any of these songs surprise you? I know a couple of these did for me, such as Blondie covering The Tide Is High as well as Rod Stewart's Some Guys Have All The Luck.

Sort Order:

I of course knew the Everly Brothers hit. It was a pretty big song for them, and they sang it often. Also I knew the Persuaders song (not a particularly big hit). But the Blondie one got me. I listened to a lot of pop music in 1966 and I don't remember the Paragons at all :)

Thanks for a nice report!

@bigtom Thanks for stopping by and checking out #makeovermonday! I had Pandora on and heard the Atomic Kitten song and did not realize they had remade it then I did some digging around. I didn't realize it either until I was making the post. It was a surpise to me as well!
