Making a table, on a balcony! Part 4 - almost there!steemCreated with Sketch.

It stands, on it's own. Look ma, no clamps! 😄

Seeing as I got carried away, again and neglected to take photo's as I progressed, here are some photo's of the nearly completed table.

At this point I have planed a bit more, sanded, and put on a few coats of water based varnish.

I really wanted to get the table assembled as it felt like this was carrying on for ages, so I quickly screwed it all together.

The front legs are screwed to the base from the inside, so as to hide the heads of the screws. I think the effect worked out all right.

The back legs I had to screw through the legs from the outside, and into the base, from the angle in the above photo it's hard to see the screws, but they are there.

I quite like the look of the wood, its not bland, even though most people avoid wood with knots, I think it adds character.

So the legs may not be 100% parallel, and at right angles to the base. but that s something that I will try and take on with my next table.

Yes I am going to do another one. This was made for my eldest son, but his little brother saw it and has decided he wants one too!!

It looks smoother than it is, I am going to be on the hunt for a larger, better quality hand plane. The one I am using is really poor quality and I struggled immensely with it when planing the top.

All that's left now is to prepare the top shelf, which bring me to...

My conundrum. The remaining bits of wood have wicked twists in them, making it very hard to get a straight bit glued up from them.

I have tried ripping them in half, then re-gluing that together after planing the edges. This was unsuccessful.
I do have something else in mind, and am going to have another go at ripping the lengths down again.

Check back to see if I get it right!

When you lack the equipment, you make a plan!!

Even if it means clamping things to your balcony rail!
