The Steemtopia Network of Learning UPDATE - Connecting people and ideas!

in makesteemitgreat-again •  7 years ago  (edited)

The Steemtopia Network of Learning is happy to provide another update for Steemians that want to share their knowledge and skills in different areas of life to help other Steemians. SNL is also proud to partner with the #newbieresteemday initiative, @steemgigs, @steemfreelancers, @thesteemhouse, @steemfreepress and individuals who wish to share their knowledge and skills with the rest of the Steemit community.

First I want to share with you some of the exciting things I have been hearing and learning about this week...

News

There is a contest for everyone!

Do you enjoy writing? Then @moneyinfant has the most comprehensive list of writing contests on Steemit so keep an eye out on the latest isse:

Do you enjoy being a part of a community? Then @newbiegames is the place to go where you can have fun and also get to know your fellow Steemians. This week's game is the Crypto Cage Match:

I also saw a really good contest by @aoart that encourages people to share their knowledge in different areas, which is very much in line with the theme of SNL and it is finishing soon but I hope people will go and support it:

There is also a very good list of contests on Steemit by @artz called the Steemit Contest Compilation, so I am sure you'll find something to enjoy and win prizes. Good luck!

A Steemit Beginner's Guide?

Something fresh off the press! Yesterday @ethandsmith posted about another great initiative to bring Steemit to the masses with his The Beginner's Guide to Steemit concept. I think this is something that #newbieresteemday should really get behind:

Great work @firebrefox! Your compilation of learning posts are marvelous!
This is a very good initiative to encourage Steemians to learn from others, engage with others and at the same time you're indirectly educating newbies to write quality posts.
This is superb, keep posting SNLs!!

Thanks for the kind comments. I am hoping that this also allows me to continue expanding my circles too! It gets harder each time to find new people to add to the list, so if you know of anyone that you think would be suitable please let me know as well :)

Okay, I'll keep an eye out on any interesting Steemians and posts :)

Thanks so much for mentioning my writing contest list. I really appreciate all you're doing with your own compilation of learning resources here on Steemit.

No problems! I think you have a really nice list and as you know it is not easy to keep track of everything that is happening on Steemit :) I am really just trying to create a list of lists so that I can get to know more people and help connect them with each other. I have read the posts of people listed here and/or spoken with them on Discord so I think they all have a lot to offer to both new and experience people on Steemit that want to keep learning.

Thanks so much for the mention, but sadly I've had to end my contest. If I start it up again at anytime, I will let you know.

That's okay, I think your How To posts are a very interesting and informative way to understand art and so it is good to add you to the list and let other people find you :)

Oh yes, I'll definitely be continuing my How Tos on my page.

Great compilation of members and posts!

Thanks @goldendawne :) But I am always on the lookout for more so if you know some people that definitely should be on this list let me know!

another awesome post!! You amaze me with your capability of finding all things educational and all the great Steemians! I'm checking them all out!
Resteemed !!.png

Between trying to participate in all the great competitions and connecting with people on Discord as well, I am surprised that I actually have time for this :D

me too! you're amazing! 🙌😀

What an awesome compilation of just about everything cool on steemit! This is a great resource for everyone, not just those new to the platform. I hadn't yet heard of the Learning Circles and am going to check them out as well as the markdown guides. There's always something new to learn here...I love it! Thanks again @fibrefox ;)

Thanks. I'll do my best to keep updating this list. Might use the names for a bingo game even :D

The bingo game is a good idea ;)

By the way, as a @newbieresteem and @asapers member, I'm focusing more on watching for those who struggle by reading between the lines on their commenting. Although many come right out to say they're frustrated or not understanding things, some are little less forthcoming. My background is in Linguistics (English/History/Special Needs Teacher) and Psychology/Sociology. So I've started with the 'Importance of Commenting' that you saw (thanks for stopping by:), and will go from there. Because I tend to comment a lot on posts, I've started randomly finding more and more people that way. When I find 'them' I like to point them in several directions, so I'll be adding your post here as well from now on. Thank you!

Cheers!

I think it is terrific what you are doing to make Steemit a more inclusive community where everyone has a chance to reach their potential. I saw earlier on how many people were very harsh and critical of people whose comments didn't fit with the 'Steemit Etiquette' but they didn't take into consideration of the language and culture barriers in a mixed and diverse social platform. I try to encourage people and point them in the right direction when I can instead of shutting them out completely (because it obviously doesn't solve the problem), and I think with your experience and expertise your contributions both in posts and comments are invaluable.

I know that @ethandsmith is working on a beginner's guide to Steemit and I think if you could provide some pointers for how to make the process better for some of the people who do struggle that would be also make a big impact too :)

Thank you so much for your kind words and for the information re: @ethandsmith . I'll get in touch with him for sure.

Yes I hear you about the criticisms on certain comments. I witnessed it once and then took the time to go the 'culprit's ' page to leave a comment on one of his posts. He replied with the same "please upvote me" nonsense. I then explained to him why that wasn't appropriate and how others feel about it. He was so thankful and apologetic, because he had no idea what the etiquette actually was here. He even went so far as to go back to the original post and apologise to the 'criticizers'. I of course believe in the power of education, and I also believe in second chances.

...not third and fourth ones though ;)

Cheers! Thanks again for the info.
