Since joining this website, I've been thinking about what kind of post I should make to kick things off - other than my introduction post, of course - so I figured, why not a post on the topic of what this site is about?
Making money online.
Now, most people - whether they use the internet a lot or not - think that making money online is lazy and that there is little to no effort put into it. And, to be fair, in some cases that is true. There are those out there that have found ways to cheat the system and make money off of doing next to nothing. How they do it? Well, that's clearly a mystery to me because I'm about as broke as they come.
On the other hand, however, a lot of people making money online practically break their backs to do so. Spending hours on end creating content, editing said content, then managing multiple social media platforms. Which, in my and plenty of my friends' experience, rarely gets you any kind of feedback or reward.
People love to consume content like locusts, but they hardly ever feel the need to give back in anyway since they assume it's easy work, which leaves us becoming dependant on websites like this or sponsors rather than the actual audience. A problem which has led to the soul-crushing defeat of some content creators who just couldn't put any more time and effort into it.
Getting through to your audience on the topic is tough, too. I've had to tell many of my followers on other websites that even a simple comment saying, "nice work!" is enough for me, since it's at least letting me know that they enjoyed the work. It's often ignored or even sometimes snapped at, but ever since I've been explaining to them how much feedback of any kind is helpful, they've been slowly getting better about it.
In the end, all we can do is hope that eventually our content will be seen as actual labor and that our audiences will one day realize that a simple picture is, in fact, not just a simple picture, but instead hours of hard work which should be rewarded so that the artist can live their dream and so that the people have content to enjoy.
We do work. It's hard work and we do it because we have a passion for it. We are not lazy and without us, people would have less art, writing, videos, pictures, etc. We help make the modern world go 'round, and if they want to call that lazy, then shame on them.
