Making Tang-Yuan 汤圆 Family Unity

Winter Solstice is when the season begins to snow. Usually China experiences that, but all over the world, Chinese celebrates this by making Tang Yuan. (in fact, eves of weddings or celebrations, we also make it) But I don't care, I just make whenever I like. There's only rain and sun in Malaysia.

I like the fact that when I have made the dough, all of the family members must join in, to roll a little patch of the dough into balls. Some naughty ones might make weird shapes. That's the quirk of it...

Everyone put some flour onto their palms, and start to roll, so that dough won't be sticky. There might be different sizes and different shapes. It's alright. Everybody is happy and doing things together. Chinese mind... Haha...

Glutinous Rice Balls with Gula Melaka Ginger sweet soup. The rice balls have no taste, just plain floury... However, the sweet soup complimented the rice balls... By being spicy gingery and the sugar is from a beautiful gula melaka... We can put some pandan leaves to boil with.

Myth 1: must make in even numbers of balls... And eat even number of balls too... Otherwise, you'll end up forever alone.

Myth 2: must make as sweet as possible, so that couples will be sweet and romantic always.

Myth 3: must make many colours for celebrations, differences and unity. Great but true myth.

In conclusion, I'm very happy to share this moment with all of you. I love my family and I love this family unity concept. Cheers!
