Malahayati port is believed to have existed since the time of Sultan Iskandar Muda, but the place is not exactly in position (port) today.

Malahayati Harbor has always been visited by merchants from China which later became known as Lamwuli. Referring to the historical record of Aceh, Lamwuli is the Lamuri Kingdom located not far from the current position of Malahayati Port.

Lamuri is one of the kingdoms in Aceh are still patterned Hindu culture. This kingdom was later transformed into the Kingdom of Aceh Darussalam after its last king embraced Islam. Lamuri Kingdom Center which was originally located in Krueng Raya was moved to the edge of Krueng Aceh estuary.

In the Ming Dynasty records on Aceh cited by Denys Lombard in his book The Kingdom of Aceh; In the time of Sultan Iskandar Muda, the Chinese often visited Lamuri to trade precious stones, agate, crystal, indigo, valuable horses, rhinos, amber and aloes. In addition, the Chinese also often buy rabbits, shoots, cloves, incense, kris, bow, lead, pepper, sapwood, sulfur, and other items.

By the people of Aceh, the mention of Lamuri later changed to Lamreh. This old port, then taken over by PT Pelindo in 1970. This port was once a port of transit to the island of Sabang in the era of the 80s.

Then the port is converted to serve as a place to stop the freighter after the operation of the Port of Ulee Lheue approximately in 2004. At the time of the tsunami, the location of this harbor was affected by the tidal wave of sea water. A few moments this port can not be stopped by the ship. After a cleanup by donor agencies, around 2007 the port is back in operation.
