As I'm typing this, our country Malaysia's 7th prime minister has just been sworn in. In fact, this isn't the first time he held the 'prime minister' title. He's the PM for the 2nd time in Malaysian history, and in history - the oldest candidate to be PM.
His name might be familiar. Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad (Father of Modernization) is no stranger in the world of politics, being the world's longest-serving PM from 1981 to 2003 as our 4th PM. That's 22 whopping years! He's 93 now. He should be drinking premium tea, spending his days with his wife. But what did he do? He stood up to fight for our country.
It is true that he had his fair share of past scandals too, including jailing his Deputy PM over false allegations, corruption, etc. But he's the man who put our country on the world map. He's also the one who mentored Najib Razak who caused our country the chaos we're in today. Incompetent government, declining economy, poor standards of living, corrupt officials, price hikes. The list goes on.
Initially, our entire family sat in front of the TV, waiting for results of our 14th General Election. But it's too slow, waaaaay too slow. The counting began at 6PM and only ended at 4AM. What incompetent Election Commission we have, even TV commentators were bashing their turtle speed. The opposition, led by Tun Mahathir is our final hope to save Malaysia. We only need 112 parliament seats to win the election.
My family couldn't wait so they slept first. I was doing my own little Twitter commentating which had a total reach of nearly 2 million people. I never thought my little fun time would give so much impact! Since I was doing my own commentating, I didn't wanna sleep that early.
It was almost 3AM when Pakatan Harapan (Alliance of Hope), Malaysia's former opposition party won majority parliament seats. I figured out my mother would be happy to hear this, so I went to her, tapped her shoulder and whispered "Mum, we made it. We won". Still half awake and eyes half open, mom smiled big, chuckling a little, saying "Hah, we won!". And in a split second, she closed her eyes and continued sleeping. Wow, mum!
I walked out to the living room. The house's really quiet with dim lights at that time. Seldom have I been up until this late. I went over to my TV cabinet, looked at my late grandfather's picture, took the picture up and smiled at him. Grandpa saw Barisan Nasional's (the then government party) wrongdoings since we were just kids. If he was still around, he would've been the happiest among us.
Oh oh oh! Have I told you how Tun Mahathir kinda looked like my grandfather? When we were kids, whenever we saw Tun Mahathir on TV, my cousins, little brother and I would call "GRANDPA! GRANDPA! GRANDPA ON TV!" out loud. Come to think of it, we were really silly! HAHAHA! If he was beside us, he would've spanked us for real.
Tun Mahathir's appointment ended the 60-year long regime of Barisan Nasional, and I believe it will put Najib Razak to justice. Having siphoned billions of MYR into his personal account and was spent on nonsensical stuffs like paintings, yachts, movies, yada yada, you know those things that benefit none of us Malaysians? It's like he stole money from us in daylight. Before today, we were in a kleptocratic country. Led by a robber who robbed our money, then denied the allegations when world press clearly had pieces of evidence.
It's all worth it. We won. Malasia won. We finally made it after tens of years. Tears of joy are down my cheeks as I type this. Thank you Malaysian voters. Thank you world press who spread the news. Thank you oversea voters who came back, and volunteers who carried hundreds of postal votes back here.
Malaysia has hope now :') Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!
Ah well I haven't been sleeping enough last night. Stayed up late to do my little 'election result' commentary on Twitter. Gained lots of new friends while doing it and had fun too! I guess I'll head to bed now and get a good night sleep.
Good night :)

Finally we can be proud to say we are from Malaysia to others. No more shame. No more apartheid. No more fear. No more working 40% more to pay for a home. No more religious injustice.
Yes to Harapan (hope), UM.. NO to UMNO.
