On February 21, 1965, well-known African American rights activist and advocate Malcolm X was shot and killed in Manhattan's Audubon Ballroom Theatre by Thomas Hagan, a member of the Nation of Islam, who was accompanied by two other men who managed to escape.
The day before, photographer Duilio Pallottellitomaba took these historic photographs of Malcolm X with his wife, Betty Shabazz, and their children during a meeting at the headquarters of his Organization of African American Unity at the Theresa Hotel in Harlem on February 20, 1965.
