Yesterday's second mallsballers meet up was even better attended than the first. There were old faces and some new and all were friendly. I think for many of us it was a case of internet introverts having a meetup; we're just not used to seeing people face to face!
In attendance were @mattclarke, @thevillan, @o07, @julianghost, @alannapendragon, @holoz0r, @realtreebivvy, @izzydawn, @minismallholding, @ursa, @nerdfury, @timmm, @doop, @galenkp, @lovelivinglife, @trentjm27 and there was a late visit from @dolladu.
An unusual bit of rainfall sent us indoors for a bit, but it was dark and noisy inside which made it harder for us introverts to communicate, so we were back outside as soon as it stopped. There, the more outgoing ones could be better heard by all to lead a good discussion.
Apart from our location, most of us have very little in common. We post on completely different subjects, yet we all still got along and found common ground. It connects back to something else I was thinking of writing about, organic communities. What I mean by that is the way that communities naturally form rather than the contrived ones we tend to build of like minded people. Communities used to form as people working with each other within their villages, groups or tribes and rather than being like minded, every skill and approach came in useful. As @mattclarke said we have the opportunity for specialists and can support one another with those connections both online and off.
Many of these people I might not look at twice online, because they aren't within my area of interest, but having made that physical connection gives me a new point of view and I want to support them as people.
If you can connect up with Steemians in your area it's well worth it, even if you are someone who copes better in the virtual world.
And on a final note, a really heartwarming event was @o07's generous door ticket lottery for a silver coin. It feels like good karma that the winner was @nerdfury, who's recent financial struggles probably made him the best one to take the prize. Here's hoping that good luck and karma continues for you mate!
good to see that this is still going on, these small group meetings can grow very fast when people understand whats really going on behind the scenes
keep it up and stay motivated! best of luck :)

I like what you say here @minismallholding..."Many of these people I might not look at twice online, because they aren't within my area of interest, but having made that physical connection gives me a new point of view and I want to support them as people."

Oh, that sounds like so much fun. There’s a meetup in the works for our area in April. I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve been visiting with so many people through my screen, it’ll be nice to shake some hands and hear some voices!

The coin went a new home where it will be looked after!
I will also be putting up a new coin at the March meetup as a door prize for any attendees to win.

I completely missed the draw and didn't even realise it had happened until we got home! When I saw who the winner was I thought it was perfect.

Ah, I put all the tickets in the bike helmet of @thevillan then drew the winner.
You would have been in the draw though as I allocated everyone a ticket :)
Next time I will make sure I stand up and announce it to the group.
