How Men Grieve

in man •  7 years ago

It's nice to have a person to get help. It's not shameful. When we have a problem, we have to forget about our pride.

"I don't think I've grieved properly. I've not given myself that time to sit down and really flush everything out."
That was ex-England and Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand, whose wife Rebecca (the mother to their three children) died of cancer when she was aged just 34.
Ferdinand retired soon after her death in 2015 and has largely avoided publicity since, but his ordeal was back in the news recently with the announcement of his forthcoming documentary, Being Mum and Dad. In it, he explores how bereaved parents come to terms with loss and opens up about his own experience.
