When I Just Want a Normal Life - Saiki Kusuo no Sainan Manga Recommendation

Having a psychic power has been a dream for most of us. Like reading the mind of a person, reversing the flow of time, invisibility, precognition and even talking to spirits has been fascinating. If you will be asking me what kind of special powers I would like to have it in case that I would have an opportunity I will go ahead and pick invisibility for the reason why it will be a secret (¬‿¬)

Some will definitely think of it as a gift but not our main character on this Manga Saiki Kusuo. I will give you the reason why so stay tuned and read this article :) It's English Title is The Disastrous Life of Saiki Kusuo so expect something like a disaster.

Story 10/10

Right now it has like 100+ chapters that you can enjoy reading with. It was translated as per Mangapark around 2016 of March. Its story is really light and each chapter has its own story. Sometimes there will be a continuous chapter but most of the times they are just random chapters all in all. If you will be thinking about in a perspective.

But as you go through the chapters you will realize that somehow, they are still interrelated to each other. A single nonsense pure comedic chapter is like an introduction for an additional character in the series like that. The story is really nice. It is very light with less violence. Although at some point you will just want to not obtain a power like Saiki.
Here's a good example of that scenario.

In all fairness what Saiki, just want is a normal life, without using his esper powers. But that is not really possible because he has a lot of crazy people around him and even his family is also crazy hence he just accepted the fact that he will be using it almost every day.
It is somehow a struggle for him to live with them and that is what I liked about the story. I know that it is not really realistic especially the esper thing but it gives me an idea of what it looks like having some powers like the disadvantage of having one in his case.

Characters 10/10

Each one of the characters has their own unique personality. I will be giving only a gist of the main characters in the first few episodes because I do not want to spoil you guys that much.

Let's start with Saiki Kusuo,

He is the main lead character in this series and this is where we get the name :) So as mentioned earlier he is a psychic that wants to live a normal life. He hates standing out in the crowd and just wants to be alone most of the times. The first person who knew that he has an amazing power is his dad. It happened why they are playing and his dad threw him in the air and Saiki did not even return, he just floats in the mid-air

His distinct feature is his pink hair which he did not inherit from his parents. A green glasses and a pair of pink antennas. You might think that it is really weird but believe me on one of the few chapters it will be revealed, why he does have that antenna and who did that.

He is often not associated with people, and just wants to be alone but in the long run people a lot of people are bugging him he was able to make some "friends" and they are able to disturb his inner peace as the story progresses.

Next is Riki Nendou

The first person who made friends with Saiki, he often called him "partner". At first, he is just your normal delinquent type character with the Mohawk hairstyle and the scar. He is an bad boss in an anime like your regular enemy. On the first episode of Saiki, you will see how he bully Saiki to get a copy of the homework.

His most standing out personality is his idiocy, wherein it will take a lot of explanations for him to understand a certain thing and in the long run, he will still not understand it. Also, he is the only person that Saikikun is having trouble with, because he cannot read Nendo's mind at all and he does not know what he is thinking. As the story progress, Saiki found out the reason why he was not able to do so.

Next is Kaidou Shun

He is one of the characters that I enjoyed the most. He has a chuunibyou syndrome (is a derrogative colloquial term in the Japanese language used to describe a person which manifests delusional behavior, particularly thinking that one has special powers that no other person has. ) He also goes with the name Jet Black Wings and he has a thinking that the world is in danger and he is an ally of Justice. His distinct feature is his spiky white hair and also his handwraps or bandages, the reason for that is because it seals his powers and he will only use it if the need arises. He is also kinda an idiotic character but he always has a good sense of justice :)

I think I will just introduce those 3 because there's a lot of characters in the series, but all of them have their own chapter and storyline which I really find interesting. Although some have a fewer screen time like his Tsundere grandfather still they are really enjoyable characters all in all.

Art 9/10

The drawings are really decent for me. At first I find it really irritating looking at Saiki's pink hairstyle and other stuff but all in all, as I read through the chapters I understood that it is somehow needed. Also, the way other characters are being drawn and the effects are really good.

Enjoyment 10/10

I really do enjoy this series and each time that it was being released in Mangapark I immediately read it too. Due to its success, an anime adaptation has been released and also a live action has been released in Japan. It is a feel-good manga which will make you laugh most of the time. It doesn't have any bloody scenes, ( well there is in a few episodes in the manga but still it was not a violent death, it was more of a stupidity somehow. ) So if you want to be smiling while reading, this one is really a good recommendation. Plus it has more than 100 chapters already so you will not be left hanging especially since each chapter has its own story :)
