In most places, it is for people who stop on the left and the right to walk.

There is an exception, it is reversed in Osaka. In other words, it is for people in Osaka who walk on the left and the right to stop.

In Japan, it is a good manners to make the right side for the person who walks when riding an escalator. Do not block the right side with your companion or baggage.

In addition, when you stand on the left side, it is a good manners to empty the one step interval with the previous person. It is disliked to stand with the right back to the previous person.
