No more bandwidth issues! Show me you are serious about growing your SteemIt account and win a 75SP delegation for 8 weeks!
Not Enough SP = Trouble
Being new here on SteemIt isn't easy. Once you've created your account, you only have a tiny amount of Steem Power. It takes a lot of blood, sweat and (often) tears to get more of that precious Steem Power. And all odds are against you: the less SP you have, the less your upvote is worth. As a result, the curation rewards you can earn are only small, which slows down the growth of your account.
Like that isn't enough, many new users often face the problem of running out of bandwidth and aren't able to post, upvote or even comment. It's a hard knock life...
Here's what you can read about bandwidth in the SteemIt bluepaper:
You need approximately 50SP to be out of the danger zone.
Delegations
About three months ago, I decided to use some of my VP to help some newcomers get out of this danger zone, and give them a chance to grow their account a little faster.
I set up a contest, and rewarded 4 winners with a 50SP delegation for 8 weeks.
This delegation allowed them to post, upvote and comment without running out of bandwidth. It also gave them the opportunity to grow their account faster.
Unfortunately, 2 out of 4 Steemians dropped out. But I'm very happy to see that both @crypto-econom1st and @mirrors have done very well for themselves and are more than able to fly solo now.
This means there is room for some new people to support:
3 users will receive a 75 SP delegation from me for 8 weeks!!
Are You Willing To Commit?
You'll understand that I'm looking for people who are committed to the platform. People that are around to stay, and are willing to progress, so they too can fly solo once I retract the delegation.
So I'm looking for users who are actively working on growing their account, through posting, but also through interacting with the community.
As I stated in my previous contest post:
Enggement Is King
If you want to grow your account here on SteemIt, you need an audience. And the only way you can grow an audience, is by engaging yourself. Get to know people. Become a part if this awesome community.
βNow, how do I do that?β, I can hear you ask. There is only one way: comment, comment, and comment some more. Then, reply to all replies you get. Iβm talking about (tens of) thousands of characters here.
I never said you would get your delegation for doing nothing, did I?! ;0)
The Race
If you are prepared to put in an effort in order to get this free delegation, then read on. If not, then I can't help you. After all, in spite of what you were told when you initially signed up, SteemIt is not a get-rich-quick scheme. Growing your account requires hard work and dedication... unless you have enough money to buy your way up, of course.
So here's my offer:
Every Sunday, database wizard and @steemcommunity witness @abh1234 publishes his Curation And Engagement Leagues, sponsored by @curie. (Here's the link to last week's post.)
Source
For this contest, we'll be focusing on the Engagement League only.
As you can tell by its name, the Engagement League is all about... engagement.
The ranking is mainly calculated based on the number and the length of comments you make.
The metrics that are taken into consideration are:
- Posts (P)
- Comments - number of (C)
- Comments - replies to replies - depth > 2 (C R)
- Comments - length in characters (C L)
- Witness votes (W) (for those proxying witness votes, your total is always 30)
- Upvotes to others (V)
- Upvotes to different authors (U V)
- Self-votes - a (getting smaller each week) minus score for this one sorry! (S V)
Source
Basically, the more (valuable) comments you make, the higher you will end up in the ranking.
Take a look at last week's ranking to get an idea of what is possible:
Don't worry, I'm not expecting you to top these scores, I just want to show you that SteemIt is not a blogging platform but a SOCIAL MEDIA site. If you want to grow your account, you'll need to engage with others. However, if you do make it to the top, there's some free Steem to be won.

How To Win The Contest?
It's simple: engage like there is no tomorrow. Comment, reply, comment, reply... and don't forget to put up a post every once in a while... Show me that you're serious about growing your SteemIt account.
The new Engagement Leagues post will be published tomorrow (Sunday, July 1st). However, this contest announcement will be valid for 7 days, so to make things fair for everyone I will not pick a winner next week, but the week after - this way everyone has a full week to prove himself.
Don't let that stop you from signing up for this week's Engagement League, though. By doing so, you'll get an idea of how you're doing by next Sunday and you'll know whether you are doing alright, or will need to push a little harder.
On July 15th, the 3 people who are highest up in the ranking will receive a 75SP delegation for 8 weeks.
How To Enter?
Reply in the comments section below, telling me that you want to join.
Visit @abh12345's latest'Curation and Engagement Leagues.'-post and leave a comment, telling him you want in.
Start engaging like never before.
This week (July 1st - July 8th) is a try-out week. Next week (July 8th - July 15th) will be the real thing
Are you in for a wild ride?
Requirements to get and keep the delegation:
- Have 50SP or less
- Have no other delegation that brings your total over 50SP
- Outrank other participants of this contest - only the top 3 on July 15th will receive a delegation
- Stay engaged (It doesn't end on July 15th. You are required to keep engaging.)
For entries to be valid, it should be obvious that you have made a real effort engaging yourself. I reserve the right to not delegate if I don't think any contestant is up for it.

Well let's see what kind of damage I can do LOL. Maybe I can upvote @headchange more LOL. Between judging for PIF, doing a weekly curation post, a motivational post and newbie spotlight post for @greetersguld. I then try to be more active in @asapers too. The sucky part is not being able to keep up with all the upvotes. @dustsweeper is a godsend...but still not quite enough.

By commenting you get to learn a lot of other people. You build a network
Of like-minded individuals, and thatβs the most important factor if you want to get somewhere here on SteemIt.
It will not only make your experience more fun, you will also notice that once youβve built a decent network, people will start looking out for your posts. This will result in more traffic, more comments and more upvotes.
By leaving valuable comments on others people posts, there is a bigger chance that they will be interested in what else youβve got to say and wil probably visit your profile, and the might even start to follow you.
Iβve always done a lot of commenting, and over the months Iβve built a strong network. I found loads of like-minded people. We often work together now, and support each others posts.
If you donβt buil such a network, there is a big chance your pists will disappear in the never ending stream of new posts. At least if you have some friends, you can count on each other to support you and help you grow your acvount a litle faster..,

Many people are mislead: especially in the beginning, you can earn more by leaving meaninful comments than by posting. Lately, comment voting has become less popular than
It used to be, but itβs still
More beneficial
In the long run. The more people you get to know - the bigger you build your network - the more you can get your name out there. After a while, people will start looking out for your posts, and support you with comments and upvotes, simply because they have become your friends. And thatβs what friends do: they support each other.
Conversations in the comments section of a post are also a great resource for post ideas.
You simply canβt lose by engaging with others :0)

Congrats, @solcross, you got in.
I just tool the liberty to check your wallet and it looks like youβre not far from the 50SP goal. Donβt worry, you are in.
But Iβd like to make a deal with you: if you win the delegation, it might not be for the full 8 weeks. Once you manage to get to 50SP on your own, you should be free of bandwidth trouble forever.
If you win, Iβll support you up to 55, and then retract the delegation again. From that moment forward you should be able to get by on your own just fine, and I can use the SP to help someone out who really needs is.
I hope you understand.
Well, @abh12345βs Curation and Engagement League-post will be published some time later today. Keep an eye out for it. Once itβs up, leave a comment on that post, telling Asher you want in (maybe mention you were sent there through this contest).
Then, start engaging: write those comments, write those replies, get engaged and start building your network of likeminded people. Because that is the key to SteemIt success.
(I donβt know if you are using Discord, but another good way to get to know people a little better is by joining some Discord channels and take part in the interaction.
I can highly recommend the @asapers Discord channel (https://discord.gg/G6WP3tu) and the @newbieresteemday channel (https://discord.gg/BvNV7dW)

So here we are again. Last time you did this I remember I didn't enter because I was still unsure if I wanted to commit to the platform. This time I may be a great fit.
I recently had to be away for a family medical emergency. Funny thing is I actually thought about and even missed the people I have gotten to know here. At this point even without rewards I would still come here just to see what those people are up to.
I am already in the engagement leagues. I was pretty proud of my rank for the last week I was here. This week will be low because I was just getting back into Steemit on Fri. The timing is perfect for gaining ground by next week.
Also I have decided to shoot for 2 or more posts a week in the spirit of minnow uprising. I think there is a valid point behind the movement but honestly 1 or more a day would only hurt my account.
Since I am already doing these things I would love the opportunity to boost voting power.

For me the problem isn't about doing the right thing, more about time management. I am still figuring out how to fit everything into a regular daily routine. One that will be sustainable long term. Then juggle that with the regular life stuff that comes up.

I havenβt figured it all out yet, but I do feel a little bad for the people that reach reputation 50 and have around 100-200 Sp.
Theyβve grown too big to receive the newcomers support of so many initiatives, and they are kind of left without a safety net.
I do remember how frustrated I was back then.
Most of these people are living by the βpay it forwardβ-principle and start helping the newcomers themselves. Thatβs a great thing, but by focusing on helping the little guys grow, they are kind of limiting their changes to grow their own accounts.
I think itβs just not right to take away the massive support because they have been able to grow their account. There should be an equally big support system for everyone on here, at least till
People reach a rep score of 60 or so.
I just havenβt been able to come up with a good idea yet (coming up with ideas is not really one of my talents, lol)
Iβve been struggling with this for weeks, trying to find a way to keep supporting them, but up
Until now I havenβt been able to come up with a useful
Idea....

To sign up for the leagues, simply go to https://steemit.com/engagement/@abh12345/5av4at-the-curation-and-engagement-leagues-steem-prizes-and-steem-bounty-available, and leave a comment on that post telling @abh12345 you want to join.
Youβll then be enrolled in every next edition until you let him know you want to quit.
Use this first week as training to get your number and length of comments up. That way, youβll know where youβll stand compared to others.
Once youβre βin the gameβ itβs a lot of fun and pretty addictive, I must admit, lol. At least, for me it is. Itβs just a peaceful battle amongst friends, everyone trying to improve its ranking. It has really been a big motivation for me to go out there and leave more comments. And more comments means more interactions. and building more relationships.
And thatβs exactly what you need to gain followers and get more upvotes and comments on your own posts.
Go for it. Youβve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.

I love it when people show their great hearts helping others, when I started on this platform I was frustrated that I couldn't do everything I wanted to do so it affected my bandwidth, I had a great help from a group that supports the Spanish language, from there I knew that this platform is to build friendships and strong bonds that will guide you to success, I feel privileged to know this platform and how to help in which you can receive great support, thanks for these opportunities to the new steemians, your work is admirable.

Thanks. I havenβt forgotten what it was like to be new and have new power. Very demotivating at times.
Some nice people pulled me through, so I think itβs only normal that Iβm paying it forward. I do like the entire βpay it forwardβ mentality here on the platform, so I hope I can motivate some people to pass it along once theyβve grown big enough to so the same for other :0)

Another selfless offer! You do an awesome favor....for which i am evidence (honored for the mention, by the way ...lol).
Once Delegation unchained from me BW limitations, i got the free reign to grow my account. I can't be grateful enough. And yes, i can fly solo now.
A lot many planktons should take this chance. I do a sort of personal daily curation, i am making sure to include a shout-out in each of them for the next 7 days! That is the least i can do.
Otherwise glad to see you 'active' in the ocean!

I noticed your curation posts earlier this week. You are the perfect example of someone who lives by the pay it forward mentality. Once you got on your own two feet, you decided to go out and help other newcomers. Thatβs the best outcome I could have ever imagined.
I clearly remember the moment I first bumped into you. After out first interactions, me and @lynncoyle were talking about you behind your back (atenβt we aweful?), telling each other our gut told us that you would do so great here. And youβve definitely proved we were right,
Iβm still very proud of you @mirrors.
Seeing your rep score, I realize Iβve got to watch my back, because at this pace youβll be catching up with me soon, lol.
Way to go, girlie ! :0)

It feels such a long time ago, that first conversation, and then the days that followed. And now what has become. You all gave me that spring board. It is something i remember always, an example i aim to emulate.
My curation is helping me as much as it is helping those i curate, i have to admit, and i see it make small but increasing leaps. I think it will grow into something more diversified in the near future.
Speaking of the Reputation, lol. It sure has climbed unusually very fast, i think. But well, so many motivations to climb higher, and you better keep climbing, and cut short some of your long off breaks, else! lol.

I completely agree, although IMO people are not newcomers anymore should get the same kind of support. And somehow I feel this is something weβre not really doing enough about to make that happen. Yes, once you reach rep level 50, you normally have the basics down. But there is so much more to SteemIt than just the basics.
One day, Iβll find a solution to keep supporting those people who grew too big to get to receive that extensive newcomer support, and are expected to make it on their own once they have a reputation between 50 and 60.
If Iβm really honest, I do feel a little lost sometimes. Of course, Iβve had a chance to build an amazing network of friends, and we support each other as much as we can. But sometimes I really miss that long line of newbie-supporting initiatives that were all eager to teach me the ropes around here. Because although I have a rep of 57, there are plenty of times I could really use such a huge backup.
But Iβm trying to figure something out to make sure that people who leave official newbie-hood will not be βabandonnedβ and have no other choice than to get by on their own.
It might take some more time, but Iβm trying to bring back a little balance :0)

@simplymike I wanted to let you know that you were featured this week by @headchange in the entry for Week 14 PIF Curation Contest. We changed the rules up for this week only to allow any reputation score steemians to be featured. Love seeing that you were the first one featured.

Phew! Now I don't feel bad (or annoying) that I comment so often! This is a great initiative. Whether or not I get anywhere please enter me. I love the idea of Steemit. The crypto side is a bonus (still trying to learn how that works) For me it's all about the community and learning from each other. It's been wonderful "meeting" so many diverse and yet like minded people across the world. Special stories. Special experiences. So much to share

You should never feel guilty of commenting a lot. Itβs the secret key to SteemIt success. If you would only post articles, you wouldnβt get to know that many people. Itβs all about building a huge network, and the best way to achieve that is by leaving insightful comments on a lot of different peopleβs posts.
Due to circumstances, I havenβt been able to spend a lot of time here on SteemIt, but before I had the tendency to write comments that were longer than many posts on here, lol.
Iβve taken note of your entry. Be sure to leave a comment on @abh12345 post to let him know you want in too

Will do! Thank you for the advice and encouragement @simplymike I love when people reply. I don't understand how one can be on Steemit and NOT answer. Competition! Funny. But it is nice to see so many "familiar faces". I guess with the commenting there are so many who flat out ignore the comments that it feels like you should rather refrain. But you get to know who to chat to and who to leave alone. Although I don't feel overly enthusiastic with my votes if my comment gets ignored

Isn't it crazy how adding in the voting feature changes things? I always worry about commenting much without a vote. four months in I am still puzzling over the psychology of the platform. I think the many layers of Steemit make it more interesting.

Although 2 out of 4 contests of the previous contest dropped out, I like to think the delegation has been useful for both @crypto-econom1st and @mirrors.
I upped it to 75SP to increase their chances to succeed within the set time frame. I have been
Thinking about offering more, but I have plant to adopt one or two smaller accounts once Iβm back. That would include a bigger delegation and one-on-one support. But Iβve got to be back up on a regular base before I can
Make such a commitment, so I though this would be a nice βin-betweenβ until Iβm fit enough to be of any real

Personally, I think quality is more important than quantity, but if you can post 3-4 quality posts per day, I don't think there should be a problem with that.
You can spread your voting power, even if you don't have 500SP yet. I've written a post about it a couple of months ago:

IF youβre trying your best, you are already a winner, @booneyclaudia.
And even
If you donβt make it into the top 3, think anout all the new people you will be meeting. Building a network is at least as much valuable as getting a delegation - those relationships will last and become closer as long as you are here on SteemIt. And they will Keep expanding.. Before you realize it, you will have your own, very strong support system in place.
Engagement with others and building a network of like-minded people is by far the most important factor if you want to progress here on SteemIt.
Iβm confident that you can do it!!
